All the winners always seem to be in Ontario.

I wonder if this is their way of trying to boost the failing economy?

Thirty-five of the forty Rav4's given away by Tim Horton's last year were to be evenly distributed across the country, were won in Quebec. Nice try, though....

Okay, for the sake of inclusivity I will group the two provinces together, the ones who wield all the power and absorb all the money...

You're in BC? Got to say, if I'd visited BC twenty years ago, I'd have scratched the "E" off my compass. You live with so much natural beauty every single day, I'd just forget that Ontario, and especially Quebec, even exist!

How hard would it be to replace that many employees at once? Especially if a large number of the 24 are high teck types. For a small company this kind of lottery win could have very serious consequences.

Oh I get it!

YZD is an oven manufacturer company which is a subsidiary of Bombardier. Now this whole thread makes sense.

You guys do have one thing we don't though (well, as least in my part of BC). Lots of lakes with unrestricted float plane access. Our company used to operate a Beaver in and out of the mountain lakes but they are all closed now because pretty much every one is in a Provincial or National Park. Yet ATVs and Sleds don't do any damage and neither do the one or two cars that wind up immersed in one particular lake each year.

But if I won the lottery, you'd bet I'd be landing my Beaver there... just because.

24 people sharing 50 mil is how it should be. Imagine the good that could come out of that, instead of 1 or 2 people winning that kind of cash - I bet it would destroy their lives. Honestly, if I won a huge lottery, I'd give the majority of it away.

Globe and Mail Update
Published Thursday, Nov. 04, 2010 11:38AM EDT
After decades of living modestly, Allen and Violet Large suddenly had the money to fulfill their dreams.

But with $11.25-million in lottery winnings, the retired couple who live near Halifax knew that their dreams were a little different. No sports car, cruise or mansion for them. Instead, they worked quickly to give it away.

“We haven’t spent even one penny on ourselves,” says Ms. Large, 78. “Why spend money when you already have everything you need?”

Now, four months after cashing in their winning lottery ticket, the money is largely gone and they have little to show for their winnings. Nothing material, that is. But a long list of charities is reaping the benefits of their decision.

The couple drives the same five-year-old truck and 13-year-old car. There is neither microwave nor voicemail in their 19th-century home. The Larges are content with what they have. So when they hit the jackpot in July, it didn’t take them long to conclude that others needed the money more.

“We wanted to look after our community and make sure they all had some,” explains Mr. Large, who is 75.

The couple kept about two per cent for themselves, in case of emergency, and split the rest between immediate family and charities. They are unclear about the tax implications, but say they will deal with that next year.
