Bases...
Hey,
Just wondering what bases they are hiring for this round? Is it even something that is known before you get hired?
Thanks

Re: Bases...
I was told at the interview that they were hiring for all bases. You draw your seniority on the second day of groundschool. Bases and equipment are assigned by seniority.
Re: Bases...
The majority of vacancies will be in YYC, with the introduction of the Q400 we could see spots open in every base

Re: Bases...
Latest bid shows vacancies are every base (except YHZ). Majority being in YYC, YYZ, and YVR. These positions will be offered internally first, then whatever is left will be available to new hires.

Re: Bases...
Interesting. So when you accept the job you really have no clue where you will be based?
Re: Bases...
That is correct Baron. Those applying will also know where they are NOT going to be based. IE Fort Nelson, Fort Mac, Fon du lac, Thompson, Tbay, or Shibogaboo. That is usually enough to keep the applications coming
Once your hired you can bid to move to one of the bases you KNEW about if you did not get it.

Re: Bases...
Interestingly enough, Air Canada works the same way...baron_dude wrote:Interesting. So when you accept the job you really have no clue where you will be based?
Along with pretty much every other legacy carrier in the world that has multiple basses... What a crazy world we live in.

Re: Bases...
What would be the chances of getting YUL as a base for a new hire starting on the march 28th GS? good or bad?
Re: Bases...
I'd say quite good there are 18 DHC-8 spots and 2 RJ open in YULnatural_born_flyer wrote:What would be the chances of getting YUL as a base for a new hire starting on the march 28th GS? good or bad?

Re: Bases...
Although there are vacancies at all bases (except YHZ) at the moment, you may not be given the choice in groundschool if they really need to get people online (i.e. YYC). However, put in your bid for the base you want, find a crash pad and/or commute for a month or two, do your job, and before you know it you'll be awarded a position back at the base you want to be. Good luck all...

Re: Bases...
Question:
I live near YWG, so how easy or difficult would it be to commute from there?
Thanks

Re: Bases...
There are some difficulties with commuting for sure, as a junior pilot, you will be last on. So, you will have to make sure your flight has alot of open seats. Toronto is likely the hardest commute out of Winnipeg, there were just about 300 flight attendants who had to start commuting when thier base was closed, as far as I know they are still commuting. I have shown up for a flight, when I checked in at home, a couple hours before there were 12 cons(employees), when I showed up for the flight there were now 39. Fairly common, it seems they don't have commuter etiquette, they were just watching the flights and then deciding last second to list and show up. I always signal my intention to commute to work at least a week in advance, that way when someone goes on the site, they can see exactly how many cons are ahead of them and make thier decision on whether or not to go earlier. Having the jumpseat agreement with WJ certainly helps, I generally try to go to work on WJ and come home on the first flight out.
As RFN said, "it's not that bad at all", well it's not now, as it does get better, like anything once you figure out certain things it will get easier.
Learn the jumpseat priority from our COM, I have bumped a flight attendant with 20 more years of seniority, but if it was up to the the agent, I would have been left behind.

Re: Bases...
mbav8r,
Commuter etiquette? Senior employees purposely list themselves last second so that junior employees don't use C1's and jump ahead.
Just a heads up.
