hi phillyfan, I did not get your pm......... Try my email address: my avcanada nickname, with an underscore between the two words, at hotmail.com. (I have to say it this way because writing it out in public opens it up to spam)
Cheers!
btw..... Red lake hit 27 degrees on tuesday! I was ice fishing at the snake falls canmp, and it was a bit on the slushy side. Howey bay still has aircraft on it though.

For those who care, Pickle Lake still has lots of ice. It just lifted a couple of days ago, so the slush is gone, sledding is great and the fishing fantastic. Snow in the bush is disappearing quickly.

The ice is gone from the lakes around Thunder Bay. On the weekend I drove from Thunder Bay to Atikokan and just about all the lakes are opened up along the way. What's left won't take long to melt since they are calling for temps well above 20 C today, and possibly thunderstorms. Haven't been up to Armstrong or any of the northern towns yet but I can't imagine they're too far behind given the weather we're having this spring. I think it's almost unprecedented for the ice to be gone this early. Last year we were still dealing with ice on some of the lakes until the second or third week of May.
The ice on Wabigoon Lk has broken away from shore in Dryden. Most of the smaller lakes are pretty much ice free or very close. We just had a severe line of thunderstorms pass through this morning. Lots of rain and hail so that should help take out what is left.

wabigoon
Hey CL, do you live on Wabigoon. I'll be at Waldof Bay, Eagle Lk. at the end of the month. Have you ever caught any muskie out of there? I fished Peak Lk. to the south last spring for trout, waiting for the ice to go. What a blast !! Cheers, Mud.
I don't live on it but over the hill from it. I don't do the Muskie thing. They don't call it the fish of a thousand casts for nothing. I find it very frustrating because it seems it is more like 10,000 casts. I do know people that do and love it.
Trout fishing will begin in a week or so as most of the lakes will pretty much be ice free as soon as we get some wind. Beer can fishing for trout is more to my liking!!
Good luck on the muskie hunt!

Unable Due Traffic, would gladly have busted the channel open for you but the training is now done and from what I could tell a couple of days ago the channel should be ice free by now anyway.
What's with this new motor stuff, you guys at Nav Canada are obviously paid way to much!!!!!

Just heading out the door to the Upper Manitou trout fishing south of Dryden. Everything still very tight up this way. -15C with a strong wind, should be a good day to take the ice shack down.
