Re: Enerjet
Well unless something changed since this morning they have 1 B737-700 no 800. The second 700 went back to the owners at least a month ago. They have 1 aircraft doing some ad hoc for Suncor and a few other clients as of today.
I was just advised that the 800 is on the ramp. That is great news.

Re: Enerjet
Saw it on the ramp today across from Esso. Ex Transvia with stripe around the forward fuselage still. Enerjet on the side and white tail.

Maybe Clive is available to provide education and consulting services on how to run a profitable airline.
Re: Enerjet
Power by the hour lease ? I guess this will buy them some time. Did they bring along some Transavia pilots to fly it too (ala Canjet and Sunwing) ?

You mean being in the right place at the right time and taking advantage of the merger of Canada's two major airlines at the time and the anti AC backlash that followed! That education!

Re: Enerjet
I believe Clive has stated numerous times that there was a unique marketplace opportunity that existed when he and the others started the venture that became WestJet. And he has stated that it would not be possible to replicate that success today. Their genius included identifying that opportunity and exploiting that opportunity in the brilliant manner they did.whiteguy wrote:You mean being in the right place at the right time and taking advantage of the merger of Canada's two major airlines at the time and the anti AC backlash that followed! To dismiss the achievement of Clive et al. (including Tim) in the above manner is disingenuous. At best. What's whiteguy got to put up against that? (Ummm, errr, a job with an airline?)
Look, the guy's not up for beatification (and neither is Tim); but I think he could teach a thing or two about airlines to pretty much anyone on the planet. They both represent the confident, risk-taking, entrepreneurial mind set of the (shall we say) powerful new West.

Re: Enerjet
So because Clive said it, it must be true? Ha.
Not taking anything away from what they've done but it was a lot of luck and good timing that helped. I wonder how well WS would have done without the AC/CP takeover.
Sorry if you consider it hijacking!

Re: Enerjet
Totally agree with the Clive part. He clearly was the driving force behind the success of WJA and should be given all the kudos for it. Saw an opportunity, a unique one with the Cdn/AC merger/debacle, and ran with it. Absolutely no issue with Clive - I would suggest it is universally believed he did a brilliant job from Day 1 and making it the success it is.
My point being is that ENJ could use some help with running a profitable airline. The suggestion of it being Clive was meant to be tongue in cheek given the history between the former and latter.
Okay - enough thread drift.

You mean maybe Clive could/would reveal who all the NY consultants are that he spent so much money on in the beginning years.

Re: Enerjet
I talked to the -800 when it ferried in from Keflavik. Even took a second to ask the pilot if that really was an -800 since I thought it may have been a backroom typo on the flight plan. I wasn't aware that they were acquiring one.

Re: Enerjet
Apparently, the -800 is a cheaper lease than the -700 was. And the lease is only until may to see if they can get anything going.

There are 4 co-founders of WestJet.whiteguy wrote:So because Clive said it, it must be true? Ha.

Sorry to break your bubble but WestJet was planned beginning in June 1994, launched in Feb 96, and doing just fine prior to the AC/CP takeover in late 1999 with industry leading margins. No one had a crystal ball in 1994 predicting CP would be the basketcase it became. In mid '94, when WJ was formulated, Cdn was humming along with AA.
What would have happened if the 1999 takeover hadn't occured? I doubt CP would have survived a further 6 months without dramatic downsizing. That would have only sped up WJ's growth. I suspect WJ would be even bigger today than they are now had that been the case.
Other than some input from Dave Neeleman and Dan Hersh, (there's a name most of you have never heard of), there were no outside consultants involved in the planning of WestJet.
In the words of Thomas Jefferson, “I'm a great believer in luck. The harder I work, the more I have of it.”

Sweet 'stach. From the way 'Flight Path' is written Clive wouldn't have had anything to do with something like a WestJet without your influence...

Re: Enerjet
I thought this topic was about Enerjet, not Westjet. Thanks for the 7500.
Kowalski: Sir, we may be out of fuel.
Skipper: What makes you think that?
Kowalski: We've lost engine one, and engine two is no longer on fire.

Re: Enerjet
Looks like the other 700 is gone too.....
Only a single seasonal leased machine left......I wonder what their recovery plan is for when they go mechanical? I guess given they fly so infrequently you can play the numbers...

They couldn't make a 737 work so now they're getting a 767?

Didn't they just layoff most of their crews a few months ago ? Have they all been recalled ?

Re: Enerjet
So they are interviewing for a 767 operation but at the end of the interview they ask you to sign a non-disclosure agreement?? Seriously?

A non-disclosure of . . . what?

Re: Enerjet
I'm not sure - that's why I posted the question. I could guess that it would be about what the 767 operation is going to be doing but I'd heard this was part of it....
That said - the 738 is gone now?? Is that right? And another 737 from someone else is coming to Canada? Who in their right mind would lease them a plane at this point?
Lots of questions - no answers...

Re: Enerjet
Well,, they have been scrambling pretty hard to cover off their flying as of April 1st.. Speculation on my part.. but I think it caught them off-guard losing the a/c and not having anything to cover with (the other option is pretty absurd..). Have also heard some information about fund raising efforts around town but nothing that can be verified. If they can't get an aircraft soon, what little business they had is going to be gone for good.
Re: Enerjet
Aren't they flying the Liberals in the upcoming election? I didn't hear they were losing the 738???
Re: Enerjet
Saw it sitting at EFC in YEG this morning doing its regular flight to the oilsands!
