Boy, you really get off when someone else has a bad day, don't you?

Reminds me of Lorne Greene in WWII - the "Voice of Doom".

The NTSB report was just released, that is what I was looking for!! Jan 7/11

The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this incident as follows:
The pilot's inadvertent application of excessive braking after touchdown, which caused the right wheels to lock and several tires to blow and resulted in a subsequent brake fire.

I'm curious as to why it took 3 mins before they started to evacuate the aircraft?

Yeah, I'm sorry, but if I'm sitting there eating my peanuts and I see smoke drifting up from under the wing, its Grab-Two-Beers-And-Jump time.

Good way to get yourself killed. Nothing like jumping out on the wing while the spoilers are still deployed and the engines are still running..... There are quite a few things going on in the front prior to making the decision to evacuate a load of passengers while sitting on a runway. I'm guessing their first idea was that they had a simple blown tire. A pain in the ass yes (getting towed off the runway...) but certainly nothing to evacuate for. Once someone informed them of the fire they would have gone through an evacuation drill/checklist prior to ANYONE getting out... Looked to me like a well run evacuation. (except for the pax with their carry ons....)

Best clown being the one getting out between 3:49 and 4:07
Throwing his junk first on the slide and then jamming it afterward trying to pick it up.

Who are you referring to, Hedley? Was there a soundtrack I missed?

Well said, figuring out wher the fire is, where to evacuate, shut everything down and stow everything that's gonna kill yah on the way out. Takes a bit of time but better that than a rushed evac and people getting hurt for no reason.
