Sunwing route
Can someone explain the logic to me?
Booked a trip with Sunwing/Signature from YOW to Varadero in Mid december leaving in a few weeks. At the time it showed a direct flight. Now that I get my itinerary, I fly from YOW to YAM (Sault St-Marie) and then off to Varadero
Would I have known that at the time of booking, well there would have been no booking....
Anyone know why ?

Re: Sunwing route
I've noticed that with a few other companies to.
Air Canada has Toronto direct sydney, yet there is a stop in Vancouver.
the thing you have to watch for now seems to be NON-STOP sydney.

Re: Sunwing route
Maybe the flight is not full, that is why it is going to Sault St-Marie first.

Re: Sunwing route
Just remember DIRECT does not equal NON-STOP
That and maybe the flights were combined after you purchased your package.

Ah yes the age old "direct" which means same airplane all the way with one or more stops. Then there is "non-stop" which takes you there in one flight.4074 wrote:Can someone explain the logic to me?

Re: Sunwing route
It's a mortal lock that "double drop" flights lose a ton of money, but less money than if the offending carrier operated the originally scheduled non-stop flights less than half full. With rare exception, that's the only reason why this occurs.
Sunwing's reputation in on-line reviews continues to approach Jetsgo's near legendary status of futility. It's easy to grab customers once with cheap offers. Getting them to book a second time is a different story.
What self respecting travel agent would book their clients on Sunwing product when there are at least three other tour operators in Canada that rarely show up with these sorts of stories that a have a consist theme of customer service failure?

Re: Sunwing route
Exactly. I've heard nothing but great things about Sunwing. I jumpseated on them to LAS and was very impressed. Friends in a TA say pax come in and don't care where they go as long as it is on Sunwing. Shades of Wardair. On the other hand friends just used a west based 737 operator and say never again...
Re: Sunwing route
I flew with Sunwing 6 times.Twice to Cuba and the rest to Orlando.Never had any problems with them.

Re: Sunwing route
When I see an 8-1 ratio of good stories vs bad stories regarding Sunwing over a 12 month period, I'll buy into your argument.
The fact remains that you rarely, if ever see any negative reviews about the Transat/Canjet product, (even with their identical ultra-high density 189 seat capacity on the 737-800), the AC product or the WJ product.
Even in the positive Sunwing reviews, there is often mention of poor OTP and flight departures / arrivals at times that essentially destroy 1/7th or more of the time available "on the beach".
Sunwing tends to cater to the ultra price conscious package holiday buyer, (the "applaud when the aircraft lands crowd"), who aren't likely to be regular flyers. They can be easily convinced that 3 oz of cheap sparkling wine and reheated "sh*t on a shingle" is, in fact, "champagne service".
I spoke with a number of Ontario and maritime travel agents at an airport departure lounge in the Caribbean quite recently and to a letter, they refused to sell Sunwing product, regardless of pricing and commissions. It was by no means a scientific survey, but it certainly continued to point out that the product remains problematic for a number of reasons.
Additionally, a number of the pro-Sunwing reviews are a little glib and short on detail. They tend to pop up quite quickly after a slew of detailed horror stories. That make the reviews, er... shall we say, a little suspect....

From what I have heard on the radio, their pilots are far from unicorns (or any kind of magical creature/god). It is amazing they find the runway.

BEFAN5,
Care to expand on your post?
And please make sure it's not hear say or a passenger commenting
on a go-around that they would have no clue as to the why behind it.
As a Sunwing pilot, I take great offense to negative comments
made by others in the pilot community.
All carriers have negatives and positives written about them here,
and other sites much like this one, mostly by cowardly anonymous people like yourself.

Re: Sunwing route
My Apologies guys. Some of those links hit home with a recent travel experience, and a beer or two later after a long day and overhearing a certain radio conversation....
Every airline has piles upon piles of negative feedback. Consumer bureaus only ever hear about the bad stuff. I had a guy in front of me getting off an aircraft a while back who stopped to tell the captain he was going all the way to the top of government because he saw another aircraft pass by too close for comfort. There is always an unhappy soul on board.
Plus I am just jealous that you all most likely have perma-tans.
