Is it me or when the 4 finally takes off, you got 2 ppl in the back taking grip at something and they're clearely NOT in a seat with a seatbelt?
A device is yet to be invented that will measure my indifference to this remark.

I think the most important question is how Mikey scored a cute girlfriend. Is she after the family fortune?

Will fix airplanes for food.

I was wondering the same thing.Human Factor wrote:I think the most important question is how Mikey scored a cute girlfriend. Is she after the family fortune?
Also why was Scotty needing a talkin too in order to land the C46. Sounded like his first time.

I kept wondering why they didn't spark up an electra if they had such an aircraft shortage, it sure would have cleaned things up faster.

That was last season. Got to keep things interesting to keep the ratings up...Float Lifer wrote:I kept wondering why they didn't spark up an electra if they had such an aircraft shortage, it sure would have cleaned things up faster.

I guess it wouldn't have been much of a show if they sparked both Electras up and had everything moved before lunch.

Check out Rick Mercer next week:
"Rick travels to Yellowknife, NT to try his hand at being a ramp hand on the tarmac at Buffalo Airways!"

Wow. That's one heluva first taildragger! I remember the Basler guys telling me they liked crews without any tailwheel experience to fly 50 hours in a Maule before they flew the BT-67.Typically, the DC3 or C46 is the first tail dragger we fly starting our career when we show up at Buffalo
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
Anybody ever stop to wonder why Joe's kids aren't pilots? My guess is, dad knows better than to let them go that route.
Putting money into aviation is like wiping before you poop....it just don't make sense!
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
Anyone here that was taught to drive by their old man? I was, and ended up going to a driving school, then taught my brother. My guess is that if Joe's were exposed to him teaching them to fly, they'd never make it past the first lesson and decide it just wasn't for them.

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
I somehow think Mikey wouldn't be a candidate for the average sized training aircraft. Notice how Buffalo pilots are skinny guys. It makes it easier to add an extra few boxes of pop/chips for their run to the "general store".
I used to think the whole "pop and chips" thing in the north was just an expression but then I watched this show.

Nothing cleans a dirty plane like 100LL!
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
He fit just fine in the front seat of my Pitts, and that was with the cameras wedged in there, too. I signed the flight off in his logbook, and IIRC he already had a bunch of 172 flights.I somehow think Mikey wouldn't be a candidate for the average sized training aircraft
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
When I saw Mikey on an episode of "The Aviators" on Global, he looked like he'd been working on losing some weight.

Most of the stuff was moved out by the other YZF operators actually, with Buffalo Airways called in to clean up the little bits. One day of moving stuff? Those shuttles went on for a couple weeks, non-stop, night and day.Float Lifer wrote:I guess it wouldn't have been much of a show if they sparked both Electras up and had everything moved before lunch.

The DC-3 is still the only taildragger I've ever flown. Plenty of guys out there like me.Hedley wrote:Wow. That's one heluva first taildragger! Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find in this business

I was wondering why RTL would call Buffalo. I thought RTL owned Arctic Sunwest or they use to own it.

You can tell they don't have much material to go on. Here they put those two rampies through the grind with a F/O check ride with the "BOSS" and the poor buggers couldn't hold altitude, heading, and airspeed. Good for them, but they aren't quite ready yet.

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
I just watched that episode a couple nights ago and I really felt for those two rampies. Hey, what can you expect of someone with a freshly minted CPL and hasn't flown in months? It's true that it's a commercial operation and the 'big guy' expects them to be perfect right off the bat. However, there's expectations and then there's reality.DHCdriver wrote:You can tell they don't have much material to go on. When transitioning from instructing to a large plane it was tough for me as well. It wasn't the flying per se but it was everything else and making it all flow together. Graeme and Andrew shouldn't worry too much about Joe. Just keep at it boys! Practice makes you confident. Confidence(not cockiness) makes you perform optimally.
Never Mind
(P.S. And as my instructor used to tell me "Don't be perfect - just be good!")

Anyone know what type of Aircraft is hanging from the rafters in one of the hangers, I noticed it in a couple episodes. It kinda looked like a Fleet Canuck or a T Craft?

Buffalo school of aviation? Do they still run this or is that why it's hanging up as a decoration?
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
