Help with Grease!
Hey everyone!
I'm looking for a particular "grease like" substance. Looks and feels like malleable/soft bees wax. Sticky but will rub off with some effort with a rag. Comes in a can. Known to CAF Technicians as "fitters Grease" or "honey Grease". I have never seen it used as a grease but often used to hold a nut in a socket to reach a difficult area or washer to a nut, put a bit on the end of some twisted lockwire to pick up a dropped washer in a hard to reach area, etc etc.
If anyone can put a name to this "stuff" please post up. I can not ever remember seeing a brand or company name.
Thx

Re: Help with Grease!
Hi
Not grease.
It is nothing more than plain old Bees Wax.
We have used it for years here at Pratt & Whitney
Works really well in the Turbine Industry as it just melts away once the engine heats up.
Not sure who our supplier is but you could go to any store that sells Bees Wax candles and keep a couple in your tool box.
It's an old trick thats been around forever and works great for the situations you described.

Re: Help with Grease!
The stuff we use is called "Sealube". Its primary use is a thread sealant for fittings, but works great for what you describe as well.
Re: Help with Grease!
I use "threadlube" aka gorilla snot, usually for threaded fittings for oil and grease. It's a sticky black grease.
No teflon tape on an aircraft!
It's a modern version of "bee's wax".

Re: Help with Grease!
Sealube is what I use on tapered thread fitting on aircraft... you can buy it from spruce

If you want "sticky" grease,, go to a lubricant store, and buy a tube of "drill rod grease"
Its the best for sticking things and is a PITA to wash off.

We got a winner!!
J.P.WISER,
Thanks JP! I recognize the can/specifications as the material I was thinking of.

Once again everyone, thx for the replies and suggestions, some of them may be better and cheaper than the intended search item and my company appreciates the cheaper portion!
See you all at the next AA meeting. Beers on me after!
Cheers
