East roadtrip
Hey guys, so it's been almost a year since I finished my CPL and still nothing so I'm planning on doing a roadtrip within the next few weeks. So I guess the first thing i'd like to confirm is if this is a good time as I know many companies are hiring.
Second, considering I'm bilingual, I thought it's best for me to stick to the east. I live near Montreal so I'm thinking either going around Ontario or to the maritimes (N-B,...). Which would give me the best chances? I saw theres plenty of soaring and sky diving places in southern Ontario, are those worth a try?
Any other useful info is welcome, you can PM me too! THANKS!

Your thinking is sound. Do your homework before you leave home so you know which operators you want to target & to maximize your travel time ($). The real plus is that you are bilingual. That will eliminate a great many Western applicants and will increase your odds of success. PQ is an obvious choice but NB is truly bilingual too. Good luck!

Something I learned from a road trip expert is to make sure, if you do a return leg, to stop back in on the companies you originally visited.

A device is yet to be invented that will measure my indifference to this remark.

Thanks for the info guys! I might do a trip on the north shore this time and if needed, another one on the south shore of the St-Laurent.
How should I go about finding the small operators, those that might not even have a web site or the aerodromes where they operate from? It's the first time I'm doing this and I don't wanna miss anything.

Use this to search by province, it give you an idea of who is flying what where they are based etc.
That one is not updated too frequently, so after finding some potential targets go here: http://wwwapps2.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/2/ ... n/menu.asp
It is much more current and will let you know if they have aircraft within your scope.
Good luck.

Re: East roadtrip
If you were to ask me I would say heading East is going the wrong way.
There are many more companies hiring west of Ontario. Head West or even better head north.
There are many folks with lots of experience who are also after the jobs in the East. They want to come home.

Re: East roadtrip
I'm in the same boat as well, heading on a road trip this spring. I was thinking of heading up to NWO, but being from alberta, its the same amount of driving to to head west/north. Would that be a better direction to go these days?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: East roadtrip
Go to where the majority of all the flying is in the country...Northern Manitoba, Ontario, Alberta. There are tonnes of operators that will hire low timers. The further north you go, the easier it will be to find a job. If you can hack the north and the cold, it will be some of the best experience flying you will find.
Look for operators of King Airs and PC12, that have bigger planes to move onto after a few years. Saves you hunting for another job! Pilot Career Centre has a list of operators.
I have no idea if there is any flying out east...maybe thats because I havent heard of any jobs. Go west of Quebec.
