SkyNorth Capt. and F/O job.
30,000-36,000 a year.
I'm assuming thats gross income per year. C'mon people please don't apply! Even the Capt. wages are low for someone who's responsible for a 1-3 million dollar machine, loaded with people. We need to stick together. I know this is a repeated topic but we shouldn't let it go. Thanks I just had to vent a little.

That's because ~$36k is cheaper than keeping an autopilot fully functional. Thus the answer to your question about a/p's in training a/c. Gotta learn how to fly without!
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Re: SkyNorth Capt. and F/O job.
Let's not jump all over them right away. Let's not forget that this is basically an entry level turbine job. They are the best paying King Air medevac operation in Manitoba for FO's. Close . up for King Air Capt's. I'd bet if you surveyed King Air operators across the country, this would be about average.
Also $36K is only about $4-5K away from starting salary at Jazz and Winnipeg is a lot more affordable than YVR.
Just sayin'
Kudos to them for posting the salary. Don't like it - don't apply. If enough people don't apply and they have to pay more, then I guess I'm really out to lunch.

Re: SkyNorth Capt. and F/O job.
Don't worry..even at $26K per year, they will be lined up around the block with their resumes. The only problem is that if Manitiba is like Ont, they will never get upgraded due to the 500 MPIC cloud hanging over their heads. Find a navajo job, get that all important MPIC and then go somewhere that has quick movement. 6 mon - year right seat, then bingo/ IMHO
What little I do know is either not important or I've forgotten it!

Re: SkyNorth Capt. and F/O job.
I really don't understand this post. 30,000-36000 plus per diems and mileage sounds like an excellent wage to me for a co-pilot with 1000 hours. It's certainly on par with other reputable King Air operations and way above what the less reputable ones pay. If a single person starting their career can't live off 30 000 a year then there's a problem there anyway.DHCdriver wrote:30,000-36,000 a year.I'm assuming thats gross income per year. Is there something about this job I'm missing? Terrible living conditions? Horrible schedule? What's the problem?

Re: SkyNorth Capt. and F/O job.
From what I heard they were letting the FO sit in the Left and log PIC on the empty legs which is way more than you will get at any of the other operators in Manitoba or Nunavut for that matter.
Re: SkyNorth Capt. and F/O job.
To the people considering to apply...
Please remember. In Manitoba you need your ATPL's to be a captain of a medevac operation. Please take the time in the interview to ask if there is a way for you to build pic time while being an FO there. Don't go in blind and get stuck in the right seat for life.

LOL WTF?! SkyNorth is a fine company to work for in regards to pay. 30-36 K is the best I've seen for a starting entry level FO job in CANADA. SkyNorth also pays per diems and has NO BOND. So what the heck are you complaining about? 30K+ for an entry level FO job seems very reasonable to me. I'm sorry, but having been a brand new FO myself with 200 hours coming onto a multi turbine-you aren't good enough to get paid any more than a livable wage.
For those thinking of applying-go for it. Just remember, you'll need some multi pic time and your A's to move up as captain (I do know they can make exemptions on the multi pic time, but you'd have to ask the CP how that works).

MMM, sorry but you may wanna re-read the posting again, they do have a 5K 1 year bond. Yes good for them that they don't require cash up front but it is still a bond.Les Habitants wrote:LOL WTF?! Pilots have to deal with the fact that promissary notes are very necessary for many companies in order to ensure a return on their investment (which is the cost they incur of training their pilots). I'm sorry, but it's unreasonable to suggest a company should not be entitled to some security on this. There are FAR too many idiots in this industry (like all industries) that will take advantage of the "no bond" companies and jump ship at the next best thing. That's completely unfair.
Apologies, flyinhigh, if this is not what you were trying to say-this post really wasn't aimed at you, but rather just pilots in general.
Re: SkyNorth Capt. and F/O job.
What about the pilots return on investment. $48,000 debt and $30,000 a year..... or become a truck driver which costs $4,800 and make $60,000 a year...something is really wrong with that comparison.

So Legoman, what you are saying is that an f/o on a metro should be making $600,000+ in his first year? Thats the same 8% ratio.

Right, 30 000 dollars is just a terrible salary...totally unlivable!...maybe if you can't stand not eating steaks for dinner every night and driving a ferrari around.LegoMan wrote:What about the pilots return on investment. $48,000 debt and $30,000 a year..... or become a truck driver which costs $4,800 and make $60,000 a year...something is really wrong with that comparison.
No first year idiot that gets on a King Air or Metro deserves much more than 30 K, they just aren't good enough, and they haven't learned enough.
But you know what LegoMan, I agree! Let's start paying our McDonalds workers 60K a year too!
Re: SkyNorth Capt. and F/O job.
I'm not saying paying metro pilots $600k, I'm saying the ROI for truck drivers is significantly higher than that for pilots. And we will have to pay McDonalds workers $60k since townhomes in the GTA are selling for $380k+

Re: SkyNorth Capt. and F/O job.
Then go be a truck driver...some of us want to fly airplanes....I wouldnt drive a truck if it paid $500,000/yr. $30k is not an unreasonable starting BASE salary. Is it maybe a bit low for investment into the cpl, sure...so is $1500/mo on the dock. 20yrs from now you will probably be complaining that $75k is too low to start. Have a look at Carson and what they advertise for a starting wage and then come back to this thread. Point is, we dont hear much from you unless its complaining about how terrible the industry is. Its not for you, so what, move on!
Re: SkyNorth Capt. and F/O job.
But you will fly a plane for $30K? And that is why many of us have left the industry, because of people like you.cdnpilot77 wrote:I wouldnt drive a truck if it paid $500,000/yr.
Re: SkyNorth Capt. and F/O job.
I'd drive a truck if I got paid $500 000/yr, hell I'd work the ramp for life if it meant $500 000/yr because at the end of the day I'd be able to own a plane and fly whenever I wantcdnpilot77 wrote:Then go be a truck driver...some of us want to fly airplanes....I wouldnt drive a truck if it paid $500,000/yr. !

You don't know anything about me or the jobs that I have turned down. I have 675 hrs and make significantly north of 30k to fly a beaver so I am guessing that you are just one of those guys that no one liked and never wanted to stay in touch with because you just bitch all the time. Yeah, I know your type, worked with many of them...glad you are out of the industry so those of us that actually enjoy flying can continue to do so without you spoiling every day for us! Thank you, goodnight.
Re: SkyNorth Capt. and F/O job.
Being both a licensed pilot and commercial driver, I have been on both sides of this.
Starting out as a driver the training is cheap but for the first couple years the pay is not that much different then starting out aviation, although it is slightly better. It took me 2 years of working 300+ days a year at 14 hours a day to get into the pay bracket of around 60K a year. that means the end of my third year driving I made slightly over 60k while the previous 2 years I was making 45K ish working my a$$ off. Now in driving there is no per diems, only either salary of per mile (this is for long haul), so out of that 45K you pay for all your living expenses on the road including laundry, food, clothes etc. so I was only taking home somewhere in the mid 20's for actually cash in hand for bills rent and so forth. and the worst part is your paying rent or a mortgage for something that you never get to stay at. The other thing about driving is that you won't ever make more then that 60-70K ever unless you start your own company.
In aviation the training costs far out shine the starting wages but if a guy (or girl) is willing to stick with it, they can easily make it over the 6 figure mark within what 5-10 years? and depending on your level of commitment, drive, and who you happen to know or be related too, you can make a really comfortable living flying and have ample amount of time off to enjoy it.
The entry level jobs for flying are definately underpaid, I think everyone agrees with that, but the long term rewards are there if one wants to reach them. I returned to aviation after several years because I have now had to go out and work for scraps and made my way up to the point that I am considered an experienced driver and have a good fall back job if I have to but I want to fly for a living so I chose to return and start at the bottom again so that I can maybe one day have the seat looking out the window at the front of the plane rather then the side.

Re: SkyNorth Capt. and F/O job.
36k isn't bad for a King Air FO. Thats what you'll get paid starting at any medevac company in alberta, or close to it.
how much should the pay be? Im interested to see what the captain gets paid then...30,000-36,000 a year. I'm assuming thats gross income per year. C'mon people please don't apply!
