Sounds like a lot, but, the Edmonton Flying Club had a Fleet Canuck back in the day with 16,000 hours on it, which I thought was a lot. Until I found out how many hours some modern Airliners like a 747 have on them. Check that out.floatpilot wrote:WOW!!

ya but 10 000 hours in the circuit is 100 times harder on the plane than 100 000 hours of cruising across the pacific. those 747's probably had less landings than the 152 with 1/10th of the time

That's kinda what i was getting at. The old otter I fly has about 20,000 but she's from 57 and been almost everywhere! When did they start making 150's?
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
I think they started making the 150 in the late 50's until the 70's... I know the one I am reffering to was a made in 1977.floatpilot wrote:That's kinda what i was getting at. The old otter I fly has about 20,000 but she's from 57 and been almost everywhere! When did they start making 150's?
And yeah at least 22,000 I cant remember but it might have even been like 24,000.
I just checked the aircraft register and the flying club has owned it since 1980.
Its still going strong, although that must be some kind of record.

I'd love to know the TT and cycles on some of the Buffalo birds.
I've seen a 1900 with 48k hours and over 50k cycles on it. Pretty good.

I learned to fly in C-150 WUB in 1968, Then instructed in it in the 70's. It is still flying in Prince George.
Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
simple aircraft with minimal systems have no upper age limit. you can re-skin, update etc thru the years. 22,000 on a 150 seems very doable.
it all comes down to maintenance. Inspect and repair.

Don't be disgruntled....move on!

Just got word that CP Arnie Schreder is very ill. Maybe we can send him some good healthy vibes through this site instead of the usual negative crap.
All the best Arnie and heres to you being back to your old self soon!

Arnie has not been around as Chief Pilot for quite some time now.
I understand he is battling lung cancer and has been in Kelowna for many months...

I fly for free, too...
..I get paid to spend 5.5 months away from my family.

How long does it usually take for the episode to make it to the web site?
A device is yet to be invented that will measure my indifference to this remark.

That's one resume I hope I see, he'd definitely get a call back, but it wouldn't be with a job offer....

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!
And isn't that what Joe wants, cheap labour, that will basically work the ramp/fly for next to free. After all if you divide the hours worked to what these young men and women get paid, I'm sure they are working for less then minimum wage. Joe understands that, it's are part of his business plan, for the most part the F/O's are just time building till they can move on down the road to FristAir or where ever, and thats the trade off. Because I can almost quarantee you, no one is leaving FristAir, Tindi or Sunwest to work for Joe. Been a while since I've been up there, I could be wrong.
As for the young man's comments, leave it as just, youthful enthusiasm. This "fly for free" thing passes very quickly when he finally discovers, that he actually is flying for free.
And if he ever ends up in front of me, I certainly wont hold it against him. Working for Joe teaches you a strong work ethic, you have it, or you're down the road, it's that simple.
On another note, I find season 2 better then season 1, less drama and alot more facts on what it takes to operate in the north. Entertaining to say the least!

Holy crap, people here take things so literally! He wasn't seriously saying that he would actually work for free.
