Niss,

More people hurt themselves on motorized scooters each year in Hawaii, than those involved in negligent discharges of firearms.

If you want to place blame, blame the person behind the tool, not the tool itself. (I'm aware of the pun)

I own the exact same gun, a Glock 22. I have carried it for years. I have yet to shoot myself. I have a suspicion that I never will. The only mechanical safety is built into the trigger. And in the words of Black Hawk Down:

As i have just finished my safety course, I know for a fact that this was no accident and there would be allot less deaths and so called accidents is a safety course in the US was mandatory.

If the gun were not loaded and if a round was not chambered this would have never happened.

An unloaded gun isn't much use if you need it quickly. Assuming that he was transfering his truck gun to the home, I won`t criticize him for leaving it loaded. I will criticize him for having his finger in the trigger guard.

I`ve run like a mad fool with a pistol in my hand. On occation I`ve fallen or stumbled. Ìf my sights are not on the target, my finger is along the side of the frame.

So why not have the gun in the glove box and the magazine beside it? take it out mag in one hand gun in the other, or pocket or whatever.
it take what 2 seconds to install the clip/magazine? of course people are going to comment that's too long.

If you want to go with the loaded gun is fine theory then teach your young kids the proper use or to not touch it at all.

Isn't it illegal to teach kids that kind of thing? It stifles their creativity to place boundries on them.

There's a safety program for kids that teaches just that. I believe thier simple rules are;

1) Stop
2) Don't touch
3) Leave the area
4) Tell an adult.

Of course it's the Eddie Eagle program, promoted by the NRA, so it must be evil.

Leave the mag out or if you have to leave the mag in don't have a round chambered. If you have to have a sidearm that is loaded, chambered, and unlocked in your glove box, fucking move.

Why do people in the first world have to be armed like they are in the third world?

Because people in thier communities prey on them like those in the third world. Gated communities exist not because they are trendy and elitist. They exist because in some parts of the US, driving while white is akin to a mobile ATM machine.
