Accident at Comox B.C.
CKNW just had a news flash that a Navair airplane has crashed at Comox with two on board.
All that is known is the airport is closed at this time.
Hopefully no one was hurt.
The weather is CAVOK with no wind so weather should not be a factor.

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Al the news media is saying is the accident happened around 8 A.M. and the military is not saying anything regarding the crew.
Navair has confirmed that it was their aircraft.
It has been two and a half hours since it happened, and nothing is being released yet as to the crew or if it was a landing or take off incident.
Once again lets hope the crew are O.K..

A Vancouver Island TV station has just shown the wreckage, there is very little of the aircraft left as most of it has burnt up.
The TV interviewed several witnesses and it would appear that they lost an engine on take off and crashed trying to turn around and land at the airport.
The airlpane wreckage is on the airport.
Another sad day for aviation as there deos not appear to have been any survivors, in fact there is no conformation as to how many were on board.

Two die in Comox plane crash

CBC News
COMOX, B.C. – A small twin-engine cargo plane crashed while trying to make an emergency landing at CFB Comox on Friday morning, killing both pilots.
Transportation Safety Board spokesperson Bill Yearwood says it appears an engine fire aboard the Piper Navaho may have caused the fatal accident.
"Difficulties reported included an engine fire. We're not sure which engine, but the aircraft was attempting an emergency landing in Comox and crashed," he says. "And there was an ensuing fire."
The pilots' names have not been released.
The plane was operated by Victoria-based Nav Air. The charter company's Glenn Kerr says other employees are trying cope with the tragedy.
"The mood is pretty sombre here," he says. "And as you can imagine, a crash or incident of any nature is tough to deal with, and we're doing the best we can to get through the day."
The Transportation Safety Board, the RCMP, and Canadian Forces are all conducting investigations into the crash.

Me too... I'm on the edge of my seat just waiting for this bad news to get worse. Sympathies to the company, friends and family of whoever it was.

A sad day for commercial aviation. That kinda news shakes me up. Makes me think hard about what I want and how to get there and at what cost to my body and my family. I'm sure everyone at the "first/second job" segment of a career can think the same way.
Just saw my first glimpse of video footage. Seems the right side's way worse off than the left and so, so close to the threshold. I don't even wanna imagine what those two guys were thinking/doing although I know that they'd be doing exactly as trained and doing it well.
Sympathies to everyone out there who've been touched and affected by this.

Everything comes in threes....
I always feel sad when a fellow flying brother or sister as it may be falls victim to an accident as such. T
his one is having a profound affect on me because I know people at Navair. And like many of us these two guys were just starting their careers. They passed doing something they loved and it really makes me angry because there is nothing any of us cpuld have done. Let this be a lesson to us all to enjoy everyday with our family, friends and co-workers and never take anything in aviation for granted. My heart goes to the families and co-workers and into the top of my throat.
Ryan.

What a complete *sshole. It has in fact been 10 years ('95 in YKA), and even THAT accident was a poor decision, not NavAir's fault. After that one they tightened it up considerably. Certain brass have poured their efforts into making it a better place and they will take it very hard. Glib remarks like this one only reinforce my opinion that the industry is heavily over-represented by lowlifes.
My sincere, profound condolences to the NavAir employees, management, and in particular, loved ones of the crew members involved.
