Transat AT shares lose 20%
I hope this doesn't have any effect on the hiring of the boys at Air Transat.

All airlines are going to be hit by rising fuel costs. Next week the article will be about another carrier.
Re: Transat AT shares lose 20%
20 years ago, I travelled down south and stayed at a 3.5 star for $1000. This year I stayed down south at a 5 star for $850! I have never heard anyone not travelling to sunny destinations because of an extra $100 of gas! People still want to travel....maybe just not on Transat anymore! Remember there is always another option!

Don't you think there is a problem there???downtomda wrote:20 years ago, I travelled down south and stayed at a 3.5 star for $1000. This year I stayed down south at a 5 star for $850!

Of course people still want to travel, I don't see anywhere in the article where it says our load factor is the problem...

That's the problem right there... if you factor in inflation at 3%, that trip you took 20 years ago would cost about $1800 nowadays. Airlines and tour operators keep cutting fares and making travel cheaper and cheaper, but of course the price of oil (an airline's main expenditure) keeps going up. Where do you think these operators are getting the money to cut fares? Out of their employees salaries and benefits, or maybe by cutting corners in maintenance...
