Because its NOT funny!
His actions were selfish and reckless, I could go on about his actions but there's no need, enough said.

I wondered about landing a Super cub on one of those big warehouse type buildings (just a fleeting thought - not seriously). Snow loads are 62 psf and the load on the tires is about 600 psf. There is a good chance you would end up breaking through the structure.
On another note, I found that old women incredibly dim witted.

Considering the guy owns his own little heliport, he knows better than to attempt a landing in a residential area without prior authorization. Tool of the day.
Re: Doesn't anyone have a sense of humor anymore?
Well it's all a "mute" point anyway until they investigate.

It appears that the guy overflew his house *without ever landing* and then the neighbors complained about the helicopter trying to land on the house's roof.
Calling 911 in such circumstance is a sign of poor judgment.

Totally irresponsible, unnecessary, dangerous, immature and reprehensible. In other words brillant!

That is actually quite hilarious - against the pilot. Like it is not something I would do, but from and outside view = quite humorous
Re: Doesn't anyone have a sense of humor anymore?
I agree. Apart from being (arguably) "reckless" - they should have called the non-emergency line to file a complaint. Unless she wanted the fire department to attend, should the homeowner require a ladder to get down?RenegadeAV8R wrote:Calling 911 in such circumstance is a sign of poor judgment.

I can only assume that your inability to see other perspectives and that you're likely young as the reason why you would fail to see why this in not funny.
As one of the witnesses pointed out his house was under construction and his downdraft was blowing debris everywhere; I wonder how you might have felt if you were his neighbour and had a brand new car parked there being hit by sand and other debris. How would you react if your house, or maybe your dream home and windows being hit with flying objects, or having to clean up your yard because of his actions. I would be furious and likely pummel him when I saw him on the ground next!
As for the comment about a lack of judgement I say do the neighbours have radio's and scanners to know what is going on? The answer is "no"! How were the people around that house suppose to know what was going on? I would have done the same thing.
I have a fine sense of humour but this mentality is one of many reasons whats wrong with our society. This notion that I am the center of the universe, that I can do as I want, regardless of the law or infringing on other people is rampant in our younger society and I personally find it disgusting! I've heard it and read so many times over the past decade, "I or we were only trying to have some fun", "we didn't think about the consequences or that someone might get hurt" seems to be the common response when these people are interviewed.
I am tired and disgusted of this attitude of as long as I am having fun! No consideration of people around you, no consideration of what is right or wrong. Tell me Geveitago, are you enraged or angered by the numerous cases of people on the ground pointing green lasers at aircraft flying or during approach? Maybe you're laughing because the people on the ground were just having fun and thought it was funny!
I don't see any humour in this at all! Your judgement and your inability to see the bigger picture is likely why you think this is funny and I think its sad that you can't see it.

Well I'm flattered you think I'm young, and although some days I feel quite young unfortunately the calendar reminds me that I am no longer on the uphill climb of life but have passed that magical hump and am on the backside of the curve.
I have a fine sense of humour
Perhaps, but it's amazing how you missed the smiley at the end of my short comment
I would say your comprehension of sarcastic humor may be quite low.

Well now, I think we may be going beyond the scope of the original post. If you would like to project a whole other level of animosity upon me based on a percieved notion that you know how I will react to different situations then feel free. However, so far you are batting 0/1
I don't see any humour in this at all!
Ok, I believe you may have allready mentioned that.
Your judgement and your inability to see the bigger picture is likely why you think this is funny and I think its sad that you can't see it.
You are presently batting 0/2. Since you have no idea how I view big picture scenarios. You actually have no idea how I view this particular scenario even.
Perhaps, just perhaps, you may need to lighten up just a little bit. If you can't find humor in this then I would suggest NOT looking through the Darwin awards. All scenarios very humourus, although none very bright.

Your right, I shouldn't assume about you I don't know you, so I will give you that one and say "Sorry".Giveitago wrote:I can only assume that your inability to see other perspectives and that you're likely young as the reason why you would fail to see why this in not funny.

I wasn't keeping a batting score if you want to then thats up to you. I also wasn't intentionally trying to project animosity on to you, but rather to make a point and point out the obvious.
You're right I did miss your smiley face on your original post and you may be correct about my level understanding of sarcastic humour. I guess I don't find sarcastic humour very funny because its usually at the cost of someone else and I guess thats fine if you know that person or their right in front of you........... Just me I guess.
Thanks for the advice about lightening up, I think I'm light enough, okay maybe not around the middle but at my age I good with that (lol). The Darwin Awards are funny (and yes not so bright at the same time (agreed)) and I look forward to them every year!
I'll accept that I may have missed you sarcastic humour and I'm big enough to say "sorry" once again, but I do stand by what I said about what seems to be a large portion of a younger generation being self-centered and not looking beyond their own self entitled fun without consideration of anything else!
K? Dr. Freaking Phil has left my shoulder, back to norm now!
Cheers

Re: Doesn't anyone have a sense of humor anymore?
I didn't really think that through partially because I didn't see a lot of debris flying. Though the video may not have shown the sand hitting a brand new car that from the angle of filming would have been quite a way from the house in my opinion. I presumed the people that were upset may have thought many things that were improbable. I like to imagine some like, "Aaaa, UFO!" "Aaaaa FBI bust!" "Aaaaa drug dealers!" etc.As for the comment about a lack of judgement I say do the neighbours have radio's and scanners to know what is going on? The answer is "no"! How were the people around that house suppose to know what was going on? I would have done the same thing.
I agree with you completely. I hope I'm not engaging in this type of thing as it's not good. I suspect if I do I'm not noticing as it's a key part of the activity.I have a fine sense of humour but this mentality is one of many reasons whats wrong with our society. This notion that I am the center of the universe, that I can do as I want, regardless of the law or infringing on other people is rampant in our younger society and I personally find it disgusting! I get fairly upset when someone passes me on the right or in an inappropriate place like a residential street at what sometimes seems like double my speed and/or then cuts me or someone ahead of me off making me/us brake and slow down as if they are the only one that needs to get somewhere.

Re: Doesn't anyone have a sense of humor anymore?
I think I want to clarify one more thing if I may........
I don't want my post or any of my posts for that matter to come across as I'm perfect, cause I'm not, far from it and I make mistakes.
I think what bothers me about it is the attitude I see with it. Like its a persons right or I'm not in the wrong, etc.
I guess I was raised in a time when if you screwed up you admitted to it, said sorry, dealt with the consequences if there were any and learned from it; I still practise that philosophy.
Also I agree I don't know that 911 would have been the best number to call but I don't know what was going on in their mind.
Thanks

Well in my case. You made me think about it differently and that was a good thing.
I'm still mildly amused but can certainly see it being a really bad thing the guy did that could have turned worse fast. The one picture made me wonder how far the power lines were from where he was, they turned out in later pictures to be farther from the house than they appeared though.
