Lightspeed's new headset, Sierra
Lightspeed Sierra came out with a new, cheaper headset.
Lightspeed Sierra.
It's about $200 cheaper than the Zulu.
I googled for a few hours and found out that the main differences were;
- Sierra was a few grams heavier
- The ear cup is made out of plastic (Zulu's is made out of Magnesium)
[not sure if this is true, but someone said Magnesium has better ANR??]
I couldn't find any ANR comparison between the 2 headsets.
Does anybody have info on the Sierra about the ANR function compare to the Zulu?
It's been a while since LS came out with the Zulu and they've sold a lot.
I'm guessing, by now, they have the technology to make it cheaper for the same product.
And I'm guessing that's how they came out with $200 cheaper Sierra. Maybe?
What would you say??

I say I love my Zulu's!!
A device is yet to be invented that will measure my indifference to this remark.

I wouldn't want anything less than I get with the Zulu...

Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?
Re: Lightspeed's new headset, Sierra
I asked this same question some time ago at an aviation supply store, and they weren't too sure on the actual difference you hear in the ANR, but apparently the Sierra has a poorer build than the Zulu (plastic vs. magnesium), however the ANR module in the Sierra is an upgraded version of what is in the Zulu. But as I said, they hadn't tested it out themselves yet. Sadly I couldn't either since this was shortly after Xmas and they were sold out of both.

Yeah, I also thought that LS may put a better ANR module in the Sierra
since it's a newer product.
From who did you hear about it??
Is it a reliable info??

I remember my original Bose Series I and II, back in the 90's. The earcups didn't have enough shielding in the earlier versions, and you would get thumps off the radar, etc.Magnesium has better ANR
Metal earcups will more naturally shield the electronics from induction. However, you can still do the same thing with plastic earcups with foil, etc.
Re: Lightspeed's new headset, Sierra
Sounds pretty good to me, although for the extra $200, you would get a much more durable headset, right?
Re: Lightspeed's new headset, Sierra
The guys at Aviation World in YYZ told me, and I think it is pretty reliable since I was talking to their headset guy. I think it was honest since he had nothing to sell me, and he wasn't trying to push one or the other or any other product for that matter. We just had a nice conversation about it.redhawkdown wrote:Yeah, I also thought that LS may put a better ANR module in the Sierra

For whoever cares, the mic boom also rotates all the way so you can have it on the left or right....so if you're in the right seat, you don't need to have the wiring crossing you....
I guess I should write something here.

Do you own the Sierra?

Any other feedbacks on Zulu vs Sierra?
Does Sierra really have better ANR module?
