herding cats, moaning, golf and other pointless sports

Post by buss »

I find this internet stuff kind of fun, kind of depressing.

I have been flying commercially since 1993. Air Canada is my 7th company. I have been laid off 5 times and worked with at least 300 individual pilots. These individuals have worked overseas, instructed, flown military with several AF's; Australian/British/Canadian, ex CP Buffalo Airways, test pilots, float pilots even a Lancaster pilot, Jazz guys, cargo guys, westjet guys and lately all AirCanada guys.

That has been my privilege. Based on all of my experience I have come to realize that you can not pigeon hole one group of pilots.

I have worked personally with at least 80 WJ pilots. Most of them would have been happy to work at either AC or WJ they just want to continue to live happily in western Canada and not commute.

Jazz guys are happy do there job and go home to enjoy there LIFE.

Cargo guys have one of the best schedules in the industry. Most cargo is not flown during holidays or weekends. Besides being tired great family friendly lifestyle.

Charter guys have had a hell of a ride. Most long time charter pilots have repeatably lost jobs and have had to start over. Great guys very very bad situation.

AirCanada guys come from all over.

I have flown with my share of incompetent prima donnas and duce bags from all backgrounds. They are not restricted to one company.

For all of you who bash all Air Canada pilots as the anti christ shame on you. For those of you who claim to be AC pilots and do the same double shame on you. I fly with fathers/mothers/volunteers/community leaders and generally very positive/happy individuals. I have learned about equine care, windsurfing, circuit boards, test flying fast jets, school politics, community service, septic installation etc etc. You bash them you bash all of us.

Please when you read these posts remember the 5% rule and do us all a favor. Most AC guys I work with have never heard of this forum. I truly believe; due to the negative vibes on this site, that all of the 5% percent are present all 100% of them.

Best regards.

Oh and on a personal note; To those of you who whine, complain, bitch, moan and otherwise complain about your job. Do all of us a favor show some integrity and please quit the job you obviously hate. There are plenty of people to fill your positions many of whom who will work to improve what needs improving. Trust me you will not be missed.

One thing that always amazes me about the pilot groups in this country is how much you guys love to take every oppertunity to destroy each other, especially when at the end of the day you're all essentially in the same boat.

This post is a nice change from that, thank you.

Hey Buss, nicely put, however will you still say it's only 5% if 70% ratify a contract with a "destroy Jazz" clause in it. I find it ridiculous to the point of almost humerous, even hypocritical. Jazz was bringing down the industry and lowering the bar by flying the 57 for status pay, even though the industry standard wage was applied and then divied up between all of us. Now you have a 67 reduced pay clause and free to spread the flying around creating a US style regional network clause. Jazz Pilots were once, part of the fold, now it seems apparent your management would like to shed us and you're about to let them.
So, while I agree that 95% of the pilots I've worked with are great people, that doesn't take away the fact that whatever amount of yes votes there are, lack a certain amount of integrity.

This website and others like it are an outlet of sorts. We get to discuss stuff that sticks in our craw to stuff we really really like. It's all good in my opinion because otherwise we wouldn't get to speak our mind which is healthy.

In 30+ years in this industry though there has only been a very small handful of guys I wouldn't choose to go have a beer and a few laughs with after work. I think most people would say the same even if they come from seemingly arch rival companies. Likewise I can't remember ever working with somebody who hated their job.

This website is not at all representative of what goes on in real life.

You had me until that 180 degree turnabout.

How about you wait to see if the MEC even puts the MOS out to the membership before hitting the BIG RED Button. Up to this point EVERYTHING is only a rumour.

So, now what? Do you even get a road show? From the sounds of it, there's no endorsement or recommended No.
I anxiously await my futures fate. A chance for ACPA to repair a bridge or blow the whole bridge beyond repair, what will be the choice that's made. I, myself being a cynic, think it will be a 60-70% ratification, I hope I'm wrong
