Friend needs help

OK. So I have this friend.. his name is ...ah...Ray Hule...This guy is a world class Ace pilot..
But he is a bit unknowledgable about computer stuff. Exept for the ones in planes...you know, the ones you play games on while otto does the work.
Anyway, he apparently did a search of this site to determine how to put on one of those little picture thingies at the side of your page to demonstrate how clever you really are.
And could not find out how....Could one of you very knowledgable types help out and explain how to do this (PM is fine....and ....ah,,, I guess yo can PM me and I will pass on the info)

• Top Right Corner, click on "User Control Panel"
  Left side menu, select "Profile"
  Left Side menu, Select Edit Avatar
  Several options are available here, either to upload from your machine, link to an online image, or use a system avie.

Let me know if this helps your friend, I can submit pictures too if he requires.

thanks fo the help..I mean on behalf of my computerly challanged friend...
Seems there is something called a 6kb limit and the avatar was 37 kb so it shall not be done.

The instructions were perfect.

My friend told me that you can use a picture editor on your computer to reduce the size of the file very quickly and painlessly.
