Re: Guelph Airpark for sale
Ok, well have a good day boogs. I wont lower myself to explain economics to you however, at the end of the day, I hope we dont lose another airport....even though I fly for a residential developer in Guelph!
Re: Guelph Airpark for sale
Well don't be too sad , it's only the flying school.atpilot wrote:Lots of good memories there for me, including meeting my wife. Sad to see it go.
There is no reason to believe that the airport won't continue as it has for years.

Sad to see the flying school and restaurant close.
Why would they stop selling fuel? Put in an automated gas lock and you have 24 hour fuel.
What the local planes dont need fuel?

Re: Guelph Airpark for sale
I have heard a decent amount of schools are in trouble...As for fuel, the tenants will still neeed it. What are the options? Fly to CYKF for fuel? It's only 5 minutes away, unless it is a good weather summer day when 10 a/c are in the circuitskymarc wrote:Sad to see the flying school and restaurant close.

I was towing gliders at a local club, and we would have to fly in to YKF the odd time for fuel when the tank at the field ran out. It was funny to hear a student or instructor key up and ask "what is that" when I took the Pawnee in.

nothing new here really, but the issues surrounding the airport have made it to at least one media outlet.
On a personal side note, I was able to proudly land and meet my parents at Guelph (where I grew up) for the first time last week. Hoping to be back there many times in the future (fingers crossed it remains open)

Re: Guelph Airpark for sale
After speaking with the owner, there seems to be no plan whatsoever to close the Guelph Airpark.
Losing the school was a set back but the Airpark itself will remain in operation
The School closure is no big deal really, it's the loss of Fuel services that makes things difficult for the tennants. The fuel license is held by the School and the owners do not really want to invest on transferring it, hiring a gas jockey etc. They say they looked at a Credit card Tank but the install costs were somewhere arounf 75-100 k.

fleet16b, you're an ignorant prick. The school closing is a big deal to the people that lost their jobs. Just wait till Bob and Tom tell me who you are.

Easy CARO, I think he meant to the bottom line of the airport. I dont think he meant that you personally were insignificant, nor do I believe he tried to diminish the livlihood of the people who worked there. I think maybe a threat is offside though...sorry to hear you lost your job.CARO wrote:fleet16b, you're an ignorant prick. The school closing is a big deal to the people that lost their jobs. Caro lighten up!!
Everyone else understood what I meant except you.
I wish nothing but the best of luck for those that lost their jobs and hope they can find new ones.
As for my friends Tom and Bob, well you don't need to ask them who I am as I think my forum name says it all.
If you were a little better at interpreting what you read you would realize who I am.
So instead of using your keyboard courage, just try manning up and coming out to Guelph to see me face to face and tell me what you think of me.

As far as I know Reids Field is private and off limits,
So I won't be in there anytime soon.
Flown over it many times and it looks like a great set up.

I have been driving down the 401 in that area alot since 2000, and have only seen a beautiful Beaver taking off from that field once.fleet16b wrote:cdnpilot77cdnpilot77 wrote:Hey fleet, when are you stopping in at CPE4?

fleet...for you, permission has been granted to land at CPE4 on the condition that Mr. Reid and his kids can be there to get pictures. Let me know when you get everything back together after the annual and we will set it up

Thank you and thank Mr. Reid very much for this.
I love nothing more than to expose new people and kids to vintage aviation.
Once all is back together, I 'll p.m. you and see what we can arrange
Thanks again

Re: Guelph Airpark for sale
I am slowly collecting glider outlanding spots on the Flesherton-Rockton axis. My favorites are those where the towplane can come get me: Fergus, Guelph, Puslinch. There's plenty more to add to the list, but I'd rather make it back home. South of Rockton, it seems I always end up in the dirt.
I don't know all the history, but it seems we have to do trailer retrieves from Reids on those occasions when Puslinch can't be made. During contests, pilots from out of the area get fixated on that lovely strip of pavement and miss the Puslinch strip altogether.

Not entirely sure how their insurance is set up for the Aerodrome. It is obviously a private airport and I know part of the insurance is on our policy for the beaver and the other part is carried separately. Having said that, I don't think that they are too keen on having unknown-unannounced aircraft landing at this runway because of their own liability. I ask for permission everytime we have a maintenance person arrive or have special occasion for another aircraft to stop in just to keep everyone informed and no surprises.
Re: Guelph Airpark for sale
The CTV story covered this, but it was published after the story in the paper came out here:
http://www.guelphmercury.com/news/local ... nt-closure
This story ran shortly after which I found funny...
http://www.guelphmercury.com/news/local ... sibilities
Does anyone know if they found a buyer for the flight school? Or heck, what happened to all the planes the flight school owned?

Re: Guelph Airpark for sale
" If you see planes with extra fuel tanks contact police" LOL now thats funny, With no fuel at the airport i think there will be lots of portable tanks around.

Re: Guelph Airpark for sale
FYI - There was an ad in the June issue of the COPA Flight paper. Price for airport has dropped to $3.5 million. I've seen some of the aircraft listed with a Toronto broker and as of a couple of weeks ago, some are still tied down on the ramp (notably no longer in the hangars.) I've also noticed a lot of empty hangars and the owner has been advertising hangar space availability in the COPA paper. I suspect some owners have decided to leave given the lack of fuel, restaurant, etc.
Re: Guelph Airpark for sale
Rumor is a local business man( who I won't name for now) has made an offer on the Airport.
A tentative deal has been reached pending environmental studies which I hear passed.
He and his family plan to continue the operation of the Airport.
This is great news if the deal goes thru.
He realizes that the main priority will be getting fuel services up and running so as not to lose tenants. Apparently a card swipe system is being looked at.
