Ouch - hard landing in an CRJ-200ER (China April 20/2011)

Post by bizjets101 »

B-3018 Shanghai Airlines Photo Flight FM9367 experienced hard landing at Xiangyang Airport.

Update; aircraft landed nose first, pilots remained in control of the aircraft - but it was substantially damaged. Reportedly passengers help fire and airport crews push the aircraft
off the runway!!

Apparently landing on the nosewheel first is a bad thing.

"aircraft landed nose first, pilots remained in control of the aircraft "

I see they have a very different understanding of the term "remained in control" than I do!

No kidding...

Landing on the nose wheel would be within my definition of "out of control"

To do that much damage I don't think they were in control at all!

Ya never know. It could have been -60C with a 300kt headwind. This would make them have to get lots of power on and lower the nose to maintain proper approach and landing airspeeds.

Or not.

In any case, OOPS!
