There were four people were on the plane, three grade 9 students from White Oaks secondary school in Oakville (two boys and one girl), along with the 23-year-old male pilot.

Wow, I was just there this morning. Didn't anyone tell the flight instructor that the students were supposed to take the bus back to school AFTER the flight. Kidding aside, nice to see a happy ending!

Toronto Star photo shows a dented leading edge on the right wing by the strut. Hard to call that a crash, but some sapling got bent.
With YHM reporting a 19Z temperature/dewpoint of 16/01, the carb ice graph says it's a bad place to be.

Good job on a safe landing.
I hope they don't determine this to be fuel starvation/pilot error.
Check your gear, check your fuel, check anything that opens. Fly safe folks
