I wouldn't trust anybody until they proved it. Roy Romanow proved it as an NDP Premier who pulled Saskatchewan back from the brink. On the other side of the coin our current economics trained Conservative Prime Minister brought in a record high deficit immediately after promising a balanced budget proving that he cannot be trusted.

At this juncture Jack Layton would have to try really really hard to be worse than Harper.
Simply the cost of being a minority government. His only alternative would have been to lose a non-confidence vote mere months after the 2008 election and let the Liberals and NDP put in all of that and more.

Remember that guy who was defence minister for Mulroney? The opposition parties called down the wrath of God on his head for having a beer in a titty factory in Germany and he quit. Turn about is fair play. :D

Looks like a goddamned sitcom with all those kids. IF they can run for president for their respective Fraternities and Sororities, throw em' in the NDP!

I'm going to start watching Question Period. The returning Conservative MP's, tough veterans of bare-knuckle fights in Parliament in past years, are going to shred these naive children who will probably burst into tears and run crying out of Parliament.

The NDP party won't even let them talk to the press right now because they are so inexperienced and unqualified.

John Baird is going to tear these kiddies limb from limb and dangle them over his open mouth.

Please tell me this was a protest vote.

I just heard a rumor that the NDP will be fighting for a subsidy for their Barbie Doll clothes. Heady times for the NDP indeed.

Well then, I understand why it was fitting and proper to demand his resignation.

Was there actually any of that happening in this thread? I must've missed it.

And niss: don't lie - you'd do any of 'em ;)

-Won a riding in Quebec, doesn't speak french
-doesn't live in her riding, or work in her province
-works as an assistant manager at Oliver's Pub at Carleton U.
-rescues stray cats
-decided the best way to campaign was on vacation in Vegas
-didn't debate anyone

But she's hot and from the NDP, so lets vote for her. I'm wondering what riding the guy in the top right lives in if he had the same tactics. Niss's?

Our new member from the Yukon is equally well qualified. He gets paid poorly to get beat up.

^And how is any of the above the fault of the people running? I'm sure that their parties simply put them in their ridings to 'wave the flag' so that the parties could claim to be running a candidate in each riding.

Oh, it's not. I'm just baffled that anyone would vote for someone who didn't even show up to a debate or campaign at all. The NDP basically stated that the people were given those ridings because they didn't believe they had a hope in hell of winning them, but it would give some new candidates some exposure.

And then everyone voted for them anyway.

Oh it's not - it's a reflection of the electorate.

It's concerning that the official opposition is now composed of people who have no life experience, no business experience, no professional experience (in fact no professions at all it seems for many of them).

Pretty worrying state of affairs.

Still, a pretty sweet gig for those involved - 4 years in government and they'll have the equivalent of a million dollar pension pot.

---------------------------
The more I read about the NDP, the more I fear them. One of their policies was to place pension holders and other creditors ahead of banks when a company goes bankrupt. Now, that might sound nice but don't they realise that that would mean banks would no longer lend to companies, or at least would require much higher interest rates?

Can't these people think?

I really think there should be some basic requirements before somebody is allowed to stand for election:
- Be over 30
- Had a mortgage
- Worked in a professional capacity for a minimum of 5 years in a non-unionized private industry
- Have had a child

And they're off! :)

One point of the NDP platform made me smile, the prime + 5% on CC rates. How many banks would issue a credit card with that restriction attached to it? How about those that maxed out their cards at 21%, what'd they do at prime + 5?

Very soon, large swathes of the population would only be able to borrow money from hard-nut money lenders on their doorsteps with baseball bats.

Those baseball bats won't be registered either.

No wooden bats either .... radicals chain themselves to trees and go on hunger strikes to prevent trees from being made into Louisville Slugger bats.
