Re: Here we go again with Transwest!
I was told the rate for the -2T was $4300/mnth. "up to $5000" for the -3T. No housing provided.
June, July and "at least half of August".
After tax and rent doesn't leave much.

Is that enough (after all the expenses) to deal with management and getting screamed at after a day of flying??

Re: Here we go again with Transwest!
I have a problem with that kind of management.
In my books, initial training and indoctrination, over and over every season with a whole new team (all underpaid), is more expensive than offering attractive working conditions and wages to the right person, who will likely stay in for many years.
I understand the only expense an operator can control in this industry is the salaries. Fuel, maintenance and insurances are non-negociable, but pilots are.
Can cheap labor pay-off in the long run? I don't really think so.

Re: Here we go again with Transwest!
In many companies, the people that pay the wages have a huge influence on the owners, and the ops mgr and chief pilots simply say yes to it all to keep their jobs. They many know better, but keeping their job is more important than standing up to a stupid idea from the owners influences. Maybe this is not the case here.
It will take a series of accidents, expensive maintenance from pilot stupidity, or increased insurance to make such a company eventually sit up and take notice. To bad really.

Re: Here we go again with Transwest!
4300 for the dhc2T and 5000 for the dhc3T so the when the inexperience guy who takes the job does a hot start or damage to a machine or worse hurts a passenger do they really save any money. I for one would,nt be a happy pax sittin behind an inexperienced zit squeezer in bad weather or an emergancy situation, no disrespect to the inexperienced. The thing is to go up to LaRonge for that kinda money payin at least 1500 a month for temp accomadations and meals and only 2 1/2 months work hmmmm, it don,t make sense too bad.

Re: Here we go again with Transwest!
Maybe their retention has little to do with salaries and management and more with the fact that its freakin Saskatchewan
Re: Here we go again with Transwest!
It is actualy nice flying up there it is beautiful country and i found Transwest good to work for, however the economc side has to make sense.
Re: Here we go again with Transwest!
no money, fancy living quarters, perks, new aircraft, or ass kissing management will change this companies turnover issue or any other company with aircraft of this size in Canada. Pilots are always looking for bigger aircraft in better cities and NOTHING will convince them to stay in the north. You can go broke trying to buy loyalty, but aside from the small percentage who want to stay up north, all pilots WILL leave, even if it means a pay cut.

Wow, thats crazy rent. During my 2 year stint up there the most I paid was $400/mo and later found a deal with someone at FSS who was renting the basement for $300. All cash and no lease term.
I'm sure if you were up there just for a summer you could find a pilot who rents one of the 4-plexes in Air Ronge to split the costs with. At the turnover rate they have, someone is always looking for a roomate.
