SEL Rentals in the Greater Toronto Area
Hey guys,
I will be in Toronto for the summer and looking to rent out a block (between 10 to 20 hours) of a single engine land aircraft (be it 152, 172, or an equivalent piper).
I googled it and was pretty shocked by the prices..
I am looking to rent at the toronto island airport, buttonville, markham or brampton.
at toronto island airport the two companies (island air flight school and canadian flyers) the 152s go for $145 and the 172s for $165.
at buttonville, toronto airways rents them for $147 but i hear they charge $10 extra for insurance?
at brampton the brampton flight center rent theirs out for $114/$141 which is decent but a little far (i live in toronto).
any idea where else i should look? where can i find owners who want to share their plane for the summer?
thanks so much!

Welcome to Canada!
Looks like you did your homework and found what's out there. That's the reality of flying in Toronto. Also plan on doing a checkout with an instructor before they let you loose. Oh, and the HST (Horrible Sales Tax) is another 13%, so factor that into your budget as well.

@Dagwood - thanks for the reply, though its kind of what i didn't want to hear
its interesting how significantly lower the rates are in the US. also, we don't pay tax on the rentals nor do we get charged for extra headsets!
is there another solution for me you guys can think of?

I'm not sure; maybe you could post something on this forum. Otherwise I'd troll around various airports and flying clubs within driving distance and post notes on notice-boards.

Future air use to be cheaper, but they just raised their price to $159 + $10 insurance. I also recommend trying to find someone that will sell you some block time on their aircraft.

I've seen quite a few people post block time rentals on Kijiji for some decent prices (you could always try the old heckling game...). I suggest taking a look there.
