50 yrs AG flying
I recently met a fellow who says he has 50 yrs of accident free AG flying.
I'd assume he's retired but the meeting was very brief and he had a hard time hearing our questions as he had no hearing aids and he was obviously hard of hearing. I guess 50 yrs in a Pawnee does that.

Re: 50 yrs AG flying
Keeping in mind of course that an accident free year with an AG pilots consists of any year where "most" of the aircraft is reusable at the end of the season.kilpicki wrote:50 yrs of accident free AG flying.

I towed gliders for a season in a Pawnee.........That was enough. I had to wear earplugs under my headset. Fun airplane though. I always wanted to try a season flying AG.kilpicki wrote:I recently met a fellow who says he has 50 yrs of accident free AG flying.

Must be quite a stretch to make 100MPH seem like 400...warbirdpilot7 wrote:I towed gliders for a season in a Pawnee.........That was enough. I had to wear earplugs under my headset. Re: 50 yrs AG flying
Canada's got some real living history in the ag industry too. There's an ag pilot up in Nipawin, SK who's got 40 years in- and is still going! His son has followed him into the business, too. They are two of the pilots featured in our series, Dust Up. The show starts tomorrow, June 2nd, at 9pm (7pm CST) on History Television.

Better than watching the bachelor, survivorman, apprentice although Troy is becoming a modern day, living / gator catchin' legend. Friends just got back from "nawlins" and said there's Troy t-shirs everywhere and he was apparently signing autographs at Cabelas. I'd wear one of Buffalo Joe's. The dramatization of everyday non-events is a bit nauseating. Like IRT making a big death defying deal of changing a truck tire at minus 30. Half of Canada is minus 30 and I bet there are flat tires somewhere else getting fixed. Anyway, you get my point. I like to watch planes and scenery more than rich guys that have to go on a tv show to find an equally dumb wife or vice / versa

Now you're talking about yourself in the third person? You do realise that is a sign of insecurity, do you not? Really, there are only two things worse than some guy using up forum space to plug a product. The first is when he does it in the third person, the other thing worse is that stalker that keeps giving him grief for talking about nothing but his TV show in every post he makes.DustUpTv wrote:Canada's got some real living history in the ag industry too. NAAA gave the concept the boot. You think people would take a hint.nacho wrote:Bad mistake ,

CAAA was not endorsing the concept either.Flybabe wrote:NAAA gave the concept the boot. You think people would take a hint.nacho wrote:Bad mistake ,

I was wondering about that, hadn't had time to inquire.

Admitting my ignorance here...what is the CAAA?
Canadian Academic Accounting Association?
Calgary Alternative Athletic Association
College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta?
Clean Air Act Amendments?
Canadian Aviation Artists Association?

Canadian Aerial Applicators Association. Northern neighbour of the NAAA or National Agricultural Application Association.
Interestingly, the CAAA states on their opening page:
"The primary objective of the CAAA is to promote safety and professionalism amongst its participating members" The NAAA has long promoted the same.
This cartoonish depiction of the industry depicts neither.

There is a good reason reality shows focus on individuals with Borderline Personality Disorders. If they made a show about safe, sane, efficient aviation companies, all the viewers would be asleep by the first commercial break. Ag-flying included!!

Re: 50 yrs AG flying
@ArcticKat - boy you've really got a hardon for aerial applicators. Yes I read your other post. Again I will say - unfortunate.
Reality is - The TV show is not the reality of our industry.
The show would be dead in 10 seconds if they filmed 99.9% of the rest of us and I resent being compared in any way, shape, or form. We are boring. Could you base a reality show on someone using a snowblower to clean their driveway? Only if they sucked up the cat and the neighbours' kids, and wrote off the car. Every day. How often does this happen in real life? I rest my case.
I've got 35 years in this industry with one crash. It's not impossible to believe that someone flew crash-free for 50 years. How many people have driven their cars for 50 years and never bent one? We're not out there flying at the limit of control as some would have you believe.
I also flew Pawnees for a few thousand hours and now have serious tinnitis (look it up) and rarely can I hear my wife asking me to turn the TV down or take out the garbage. It's not so much that it was noisier than the turbine I fly now, but we didn't have noise-cancelling headsets in our helmets back then, in fact, I didn't even have earplugs.

Re: 50 yrs AG flying
I accidentally watched an episode of "Dust Up" the other day......30 minutes of my life that I will never get back

Flying a twin only doubles your chance of having an engine failure

Dust Up Pilot's review of his crash:

Having done some Crop Spraying I find the show interesting.
It should also be informative for those who have not, which
is the best use of T.V..
