You don't. As a word of advise for your interview, step down off your high horse.

Re: Air Canada Interviews
Thanks for the garbage input LisaS. Guess you forgot your manners, if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything. It is never a good idea to make assumptions on someones personality like that.
Anyone else have some valid input? thanks.

Pilots don't hire pilots anymore. Human Resources does.EatSleepFly wrote:How does someone beat the system exactly?
Therefore the system cannot be beat because who the hell knows what the system is? Just do your best and be completely yourself. Don't try to give them what you think they want because they don't even know, and if you don't get the job know that it is no reflection on you.
If you do get the job...congratulations and see you on the line.
Re: Air Canada Interviews
I always tell people that this is the worse advice that you can get. It is a job interview - an evaluation of you. Therefore, do your homework; know something about the company, the organization, and the senior management. You can bet that they are going to ask you questions like - did you ever fly with a difficult person, describe a situation where you dealt with a flightsafety/maintenance issue/personnel issue. There is a format to the answers that they want to hear - a.)the situation (your story) b.)how you dealt with it and c.)how you could have done it better (ie., what did you learn).Rockie wrote:Just do your best and be completely yourself. The old days of - "be yourself and tell them a bunch of funny stories" - will not get you the job nowadays.
Re: Air Canada Interviews
I didn't say don't prepare, I said be yourself. What sinks most guys is the testing they do and that is entirely HR driven. Nobody knows what they're looking for during the psyche test so don't bother trying to figure it out. Just do it and be yourself.
There is no way to "beat" that system.

Re: Air Canada Interviews
The time to be a Pilot was in the 60's & 70's. Successive AC management's and a weak union have killed a once great career as a professional pilot.
If you want a secure career, become a Postal Worker. They have already been offered what every newhire pilot would kill for and have turned it down. Do they not realize all they do is drop little white envelopes into mail slots?
No training or education required
" The average starting wage for postal workers is $23 an hour. Canada Post has tabled an offer that includes a defined benefit pension plan for both new and existing employees, up to seven weeks vacation and job security. "

Mack..., Perhaps you could gather up Rockie, Duranium, Turbo-beaver, Norweigan Wood, et al. and apply for this secure easy job. Just think, you would finally belong to a real union, and you could work until you keel over in one of those three wheeled vans!

There'd still be some great injustice in the universe though and it would be all the fault of CUPW!!!!
Re: Air Canada Interviews
I'm looking forward to what your comic wit contributes when Air Canada and ACPA decide to incorporate the end of mandatory retirement into our working conditions. I can't wait for your comments when the cost of this six year strategy becomes known either.tailgunner wrote:Mack..., Perhaps you could gather up Rockie, Duranium, Turbo-beaver, Norweigan Wood, et al. and apply for this secure easy job. Re: Air Canada Interviews
I'm presuming tailgunner that you didn't like the tentative agreement that ACPA delivered to us and supported the recall of the people responsible. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
At some point perhaps you will notice that the age 60 committee was largely made up of those very same people. Then maybe you'll ask yourself why those people quit the age 60 committee. In fact why do you suppose they all quit, even the ones not involved in the TA or that held elected office?
The tentative agreement woke all of you up to what the previous union regime has been doing behind closed doors, but to me it only confirmed what I already knew from the age 60 and other issues. What surprises me is your inability or unwillingness to connect the same dots even now.

Nobody likes an "I told you so". You are right. Happy? Wait, no, don't answer that one.Rockie wrote:I'm presuming tailgunner that you didn't like the tentative agreement that ACPA delivered to us and supported the recall of the people responsible. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Leave the horse alone and let's move on, shall we?
Re: Air Canada Interviews
I'm not saying I told you so, and we aren't moving on are we?
When we are I will shut up about it because I will be exceedingly happy that we are finally dealing with it.

MEC Chair recalled
3 Vice Chairs recalled (2 more pending but I don't think it will happen out west)
Divisive TA defeated
NC V2.0 waiting in the wings (very different personalities than V1.0)
Pending MEC Chair election of a VERY dynamic personality
Current elections to replace vacant Vice chair positions
Mass committee resignations
Call for volunteers has brought out LOTS of talent
Membership energized, engaged and more unified than I have seen
Pretty good considering only 60 days ago we were teetering on the edge.
If that aint moving in a different direction I don't know what is.
No more Age60 debate on this thread. Stick to Air Canada Interviews. Having said that, hiring is continuing through the summer with 777 courses (do those guys EVER do summer courses??) and all other fleets. The defeat of this TA forces the company to hire under the old CBA. The new one would have diminished the need for transition courses and new hire courses by whoring out more hours to the existing group via 118 hours (WTF?) LCC, equipment bid limitations and multi-month blocking. Things are moving in the right direction.

For all pilots in the Canadian industry... Thanks! LCC would have been a disastrous trend.crooked timber wrote:yycflyguy wrote:The defeat of this TA forces the company to hire under the old CBA.

Re: Air Canada Interviews
From 67% of the membership: you are both very welcome. Hopefully there will be the same DB pension, WAWCON and career future for you when you walk through the door as everyone else... when we finally do ratify an agreement it will also include better starting wages and no position group to be subjective to. One group, one voice, one contract.aerodude wrote:For all pilots in the Canadian industry... Thanks! Re: Air Canada Interviews
I heard (though not from a person that would necessarily know) that the interviewees from the last round of interviews that where in the pool were purged with the thought that the next hiring would be for the LLC. If this is true probably not a good idea now that the LCC is not happening or at least not yet.

Re: Air Canada Interviews
Got called to do a medical this week. Is this good news? Do they normally PFO someone after doing a medical these days if their medical was ok? Also do they tell you the results of the medical? My references have not been contacted yet... thanks guys.
Re: Air Canada Interviews
That IS good news. AC won't spend the money on giving you a medical and associated tests if it was for a PFO.
I can't say what they will tell you about the medical and/or after all the tests results come in.
Been too long and too many changes since I was in that position.
Good luck.
