Training Manuals
Hey Folks. Long time reader, first time poster here.
I just have two quick questions. First, I got an email today from a company called Skywriters Publishing, promoting a training manual. Checked out their website, seems legit, but I've never heard of these guys. Has anyone else used this manual, and if so, how does it compare to the others (you know, he who shall not be named, and a few others...)? Should I be looking at this to recommend to my students?
Second, I have a student who is having a particularly rough time with his written (PPL, failed it twice so far). When we sit down to review, he knows everything he needs. But on exam day, he locks up. I've run out of suggestions for him. Any pointers? This is another reason I'm interested in test-prep guides. Maybe more practice as a confidence builder???

Re: Training Manuals
Sorry Beef. We're nowhere near Calgary.
Gaamin, the VIP link isn't working anymore, but it was originally, and it's a book I've used already (as has my student). The PSTAR link is a new one to me. We'll spend some time there.
Are there any other practice books you'd recommend?

If you're happy with digital stuff, this is a relatively inexpensive option : http://www.dauntless-soft.com/PRODUCTS/ ... ada/pp.asp
Another workbook our students use is this one :
http://www.vippilot.com/en/books-logboo ... D305a.html
(Sharper Edge's Private Pilot Exam Prep Guide)
For each subject, it contains a brief summary of "need to know" material before a bunch of question on the subject.

We are indeed legit:). Although we're new, which might explain why you've never heard of us. Getting the word out about our products is a slow process, but we're working on it!
With regard to our Private Pilot License: Written Exam Preparation (http://www.skywriters.aero/products/PPLPrep.html), there are just over 900 questions plus a section in the beginning that covers exam structure and strategies (lots of pointers here on how to deal with question mechanics). Indeed, your student may benefit from both the practice questions and the examination guidance.
Cheers,
Steve
