C-185/182 float or Wheel time needed!
I am looking for anytime on a 185 or 182. I need 25hrs on type to meet insurance requirements for a skydiving school. Or maybe somebody could point me in the right direction or offer some advise. I have 300TT (172/152) and only 4hrs on floats. I need eather 25hrs on type or 500TT. Maybe if I can find the time on floats and I could get really good experience. I am current and hold a commercial license. I am currently living In Kitchener, Ontario.
Thanks!
Bob

Yes, get a job flying to get the time required. DO NOT PAY FOR TIME! Especially not to benefit a jump school that probably won't pay you much to begin with. If you were paying just direct operating costs (good luck) on a wheeled 182 it would be over $2000.
FWIW, I was flying 'complex' aircraft for a living with just over 200TT (Piper Cherokee 6). It isn't the insurance requirement, it is the cheap-ass owner who doesn't want to pay more for low timers. A 182 is just a 172 that goes a bit faster and has a couple more gauges and controls. If anything, they are easier to fly because of the extra power available.

Is this for the notable skydive centre in sw ontario that also charges $1000+ for the skydive "checkout" which gives you a shot at employment?

That's silly. Insurance companies will let you group aircraft ie. Any SE piston Cessna. I had to ferry a C175 once. How much C175 time did I have? 0, but the insurance said all my C172, C182, C206, C207, etc time counted and had no problem having me do the flying.

Any wonder so many operators are going out of business with pilots who can't read or think the DOC for 25 hrs in a 208 is $2000.

Sigh......
And probably considerably over at today's gas prices....over $2000

Re: C-185/182 float or Wheel time needed!
I had a 182H for 17 years and always flight planned for 14 gal per hour (yes, I know they say 12 gph in cruise for an extended period, but not in my world). Multiply that times the price of 100LL now and you are talking big money.
Re: C-185/182 float or Wheel time needed!
a hundred dollars an hour just for gas seems to ring a bell.
Re: C-185/182 float or Wheel time needed!
2000 was for 25 hours of c 182 time with just gas , about right a 2 bucks a litre!!
