What is the procedure?

Post by eddyb123 »

I live in Victoria Bc and can see the Olimpic Mountains in the US from my house. I'm telling my wife I'll fly her there for a spin around a few of the peaks. So then we can see a place we flew to everyday after that.
Do I have to fly over to a US airport and do coustoms or can I just talk to whoever I get handed off to on the radio? What is the procedure?

You do not need to land and/or clear customs if you are just sight seeing transborder. Plenty of guys/gals sight see around Mt. Baker departing/arriving out of the lower mainland, for example. Just make sure you file a flight plan.

Make sure you get a transponder code from the ACC or FIC. Crossing the border without one can result in escorts.

Thanks for the info WOXOF, I think there are many who fear crossing that dotted line/the borded. A transponder code is mandatory even to fly circuits here in Victoria. I have crossed over to the mainland and get above the USA briefly, but wanted confirmation on the procedure going south. I find it interesting to know I'll fly a route and will be able to see it everyday from my living room.
