Right now the Beaver Ballad has been watched 66,000 times on youtube. Who woulda thunk that there were 66,000 DHC-2 fans?
The Fretless Bar Girls were Annemarie Koch and Elizabeth Harvey, two young women from Sointula B.C. They wrote and performed songs at corporate retreats and parties held at west coast fishing lodges. They were invited to play at the 50th anniversary party for the Beaver that Viking Air hosted in Victoria many years ago. They were a huge hit and the Beaver Song brought the down the house. Annemarie wrote the lyrics based on the stories she heard as a girl when she lived on the Port Hardy Airport.
Bill Alder at Sealand Aviation asked them to record the song for posterity. We have passed out lots of CD’s, then eventually put the song on the Sealand Aviation website. It became an underground favourite, always getting lots of hits. But 66,000! |
