I know of several people who did medicals recently and received the PFO afterwards.

If you do receive a PFO letter they will never state specifically what you failed for fear of discriminatory practices litigation. They will only ask you to re-apply at a later date.

Good luck. If "they" want you, even small deviations on the medical exam will be forgiven as you already hold a Cat 1 medical. They are looking for medical conditions or precursors for the future. They don't want to invest a bunch of money into training you and then have a candidate go on GDIP or medical out.

I know a guy who did all the tests, interview, waited 2 weeks and did the medical and got a PFO. Seems safe to say that they didn't like something on his medical. I doubt they would have gone to the trouble of putting him through a medical if they were going to PFO anyway......

You can also get PFOd after your medical if you get tanked by a bad/unprofessional reference. Heard about a pilot's kid who got tanked after the medical for that reason.

Not necessarily, It took them 2 weeks to get back to me after the interview for a medical while the guy I interviewed on the same day as got called after 1 week. If this web board is an indication of what's going on, no one has been called for a job lately. Like they're stock piling successful applicants, hopefully they start calling soon so everyone can breathe easy and start their new career. Good luck!

Definitely a phone call for the medical and a letter for the PFO.

Think the postal strike would have anything to do with late PFO's? I did my viewing in the first week of June. I might of f'd the pooch. How long is the usual time for the "letter" to arrive? Yes, I am impatient....344 questions later proved it

Hey,

Just for perspective, I interviewed first week of March, PFO'd sometime mid May. Some other friends that interviewed same week as me PFO'd after 3 weeks.

What is the waiting period then? Typical 12 months?

Normally it is specified in the letter but 6 months is typical.

Keep on 'em. Even if it says wait six months, keep your profile updated, especially if in the interim you upgrade to Captain or transition to a heavier aircraft.... or learn a second language or get your degree or... Figure out what would make your application more marketable and do it. It will score points even if you don't complete it by the time your second interview rolls around.

Good luck and keep at 'er. One PFO doesn't change anything, nor should you take it as a personal slight.

There hasn't been significant hiring in the past 2 1/2 - 3 years. Only 7 small classes since September '08. So my reference to previous candidates receiving a PFO letter and getting a call back was from the big hiring spree from Aug 05- Dec 07.

Hiring needs to be done. We continue to retire 10-15 guys a month and have not kept up to the attrition rate. We are still expecting deliveries of the 787 in 2013 and will probably start the training process at the end of next year.
