Sources for a used Engine

Post by trey kule »

for some reason, which totally escapes me, I have been asked to source a used pt6 114 engine. Other than seeing them hanging on the planes, I have no idea where to really begin except with Pratt themselves, or others like Dallas airmotive.

so....if anyone has any sources for a used engine I would appreciate it.

Also, I am a little nervous about buying used, so if anyone has done this and has some tips they would be greatly appreciated

Thanks.

you do know that the rotating parts, eg, comp turbine, power turbine have a life cycle. the hubs are but they could have new or used blades if re bladed are they Pratt blades or aftermarket blades

get someone who knows PT6s for detailed advise, do a borescope check the cycles of the turbines or it will cost you a whole lot if you don,t know what you,re doing,
has it had a prop strike, who did the last OH if ever, has it ever been repaired, compressor changed at half life etc, where was it run, in Bejing or Colorado, the borescope will tell you this.was the Pratt maint program followed closely, washes done, were power recovery washed needed, fuel nozzle change done on schedule, very important.
there is a lot to look at and a lot to know, so do your homework
someone on marketplace on this forum has a 114 for sale

longjon....I am a pilot. There is nothing about aviation I dont know. Of course I knew about the cycle of life...I watched the Lion King with my kids three times. And I have seen the props turn so I knew there was turning parts in there, though some AME, who was probably trying to jealously guard his status would not allow me to look up the exhaust when it was running... :smt040
Seriously, I appreciate your remarks. My job however was just to source suppliers, and then it would be turned over to the truly technically knowledgable to assess the merits of each engine and fight with the holder of the purse for gold to acquire it.

I suspect I was tasked for it just to make sure that all possible sources were considered, and it was not source limited to almost honest tony's turbine center.
