Do you have about 8,000 dollars laying around to pay for the tuition, plus money to pay fro the accomodations etc? If so, youre probably going to take a pay cut to go work as an apprentice AME. And about your question a type rating is added to a license so even if you take the course you wont be rated on it.

Ive known a few people who have paid for their own courses, Bell mediums, turbines etc. It was after they were licensed and they thought that paying the course themselves freed them up from training bonds and got them working on what they wanted right away.

I'm going to say no. If you don't have any time on the machine and do a maint initial it will be hard to understand what they are talking about. Not impossible but you;d be better off to get on with a -8 operator. If they don't train you move on and maybe this would be a better time to do it on your own.
Get your ticket before you do anyhing.

When I took the Robinson course, they wanted to see a copy of my AME licence before let me register for the course. I wonder if other manufacturers have similar policies??

Cheers!! :drink:
