School for Studying

Greetings all aviators =)
As I know many people on this forum has CPL license and ATP =)
I'm recently studying at high school, and still didn't decide on university.
Can anyone tell me about good universities or colleges in Canada that are good and respected by big Airlines =)

Good time to start asking; before you throw all your money away. From my understanding university and aviation college programs are rated equally by airlines. Which school you go to has no bearing on your future career. My advice would be do 1 of 2 things.

1) Go to an aviation college like Confederation, Sault, Seneca. Pro's: cheap way to get licenses, done quickly (especially confed in TBay). Con's: You're only ever going to be flying. If things don't work out you're hooped.
2) Go to university (do something useful like engineering). Get your licences on the side. Pro's: great fall back if you ever lose your job. Con's: Expensive

PS Don't get suckered in by flying schools lying to you (There's a looming pilot shortage-you'll be at Air Canada in 3-5 years, etc). Anything they tell you ask about on this forum and you can decide which schools are being honest and which are after your $$

Now it's getting a little bit clearer this time =)
Right now I'm looking at Coastal Pacific Aviation, and these guys are kinda expensive as hell (I have a low income) around $100,000. And that's total for 4 years of studying. They are going to give me a PPL then CPL with Group 1 multi-engine + Instrument rating + Night rating. And after all they give you Bachelor of Business Administration - Aviation.
Is that worth of trying to go to??

$100k is about the going rate for a CPL+university. If you're willing to spend that kind of money, I'd be getting an engineering degree+licenses. Being in BC, I think you're stuck paying for flight training. In Ontario, it is subsidized.

It depends who you ask, but some people save money buying their own share of a plane. A guy I know just bought 1/2 an old Cherokee for $10K, and it's in sound mechanical shape. However buying an airplane is a whole other subject.

You do not have a choice is concentration within the BBA program, such as HR, finance, accounting, or IR. Also, what about professional designations? Do any of the courses at CPA apply toward something like a CGA, CA, or CFA?

You can also check out Seneca College, as it is a university degree / subsidized flying.

Just a little guidance here. "They give you" nope. You have the opportunity to EARN.

No-one gets a license/degree without doing the hard work it entails. If you go in thinking "pay my money, do my time and they'll give me the license" then you are infor a rough time! There are many threads on here discussing probelms with the training industry today, many of which fall back to the basic assumption by many starting out that you can just buy a license/degree.

There is a reason many students don't make it through these programs. Work hard, study hard and you'll be OK.

How about Mount Royal University? does anybody know if it's good? coz after 2 years you EARN CPL+ night rating + instrument rating + multi-engine =)

Not a problem Xanderson. From what I've heard from others who I went to school with, they got their first job by A) being in the right place at the right time, or B) through some sort of contact. If you're dedicated, you'll find something . From what I've gathered you need to have some sort of type rating in order to have a chance of being employed in Europe and they can be pretty expensive . You also need to have the right to live/work there. I have no idea what it's like in the US, however I would imagine it would be pretty difficult to get a work visa to go over there as I'm sure there are plenty of unemployed pilots there as well. Again, this is from what I've learned through conversations with various people worldwide so if I'm wrong, someone please correct me .

Unless you know aviation is something you want to do 110% I would recommend getting a useful degree first then pursue flying. An education will never hurt. However, if you do all your research and still think flying is something you want to do and you have the passion for it and know you'll do whatever it takes to get a job then go ahead and get your licenses . You just have to remember medicals can be very delicate at times so an education may be something to consider while you are still young
