Statement from ALPA President on First Air Flight 6560
August 20, 2011
Fellow ALPA pilots:
It is my sad duty to report today that we lost two of our ALPA brothers in the crash of a First Air 737 in Resolute Bay, Nunavut, Canada. Details are very limited at this time due to the extremely remote location of the airport.
I have been in close contact with the First Air MEC, and have assured them that any and all resources of the Air Line Pilots Association, International, will be available to them as we move forward. ALPA’s safety, critical incident response, legal, and benefits specialists have already started the detailed work of supporting the families of the crews and beginning the investigation into the accident.
I extend my personal sympathies to the families of those who were lost, and all of our thoughts and prayers are with the victims.
Yes, very sad. I guess The Globe and Mail must have jumped the gun with the two FAs. Does this mean there is now only one survivor, the little girl, or is there still three survivors? I hope that there are still three; terrible crash.

I'm glad I'm not judgmental like all you smug, superficial idiots
I'm trying to think when the last time a Canadian aircraft operatining under 705 crashed in Canada and people died? Am I wrong to think it's been a decade or two?
Air Ontario Fokker F28, Flight 1363, March 10 1989 Dryden Ontario. Wouldn't have been 705 Regs would have been ANO VII No 2 I think. It's been a long time since the changes.
We at First Air appreciate the condolences from the avcanada family. Please allow us the time to greive the loss of our dear friends. It is s trying time for all of us here and I don't think that premature conjecture and uninformed postings will help.
Respectively,
ETTW

Indeed, very sad to hear of this accident and the death of fellow airline industry colleagues and passengers. Condolences to family and friends of the victims.

Thank you all for your kind comments, they are certainly welcomed at a time like this. We at 7F are deeply saddened by the loss of our friends & family. Words can't describe the pain that we're feeling here today. TY for not speculating on the events as none of us know anything other than what's being reported by the media. The TSB is enroute to the scene as of last night.
This is a sad day for everybody in Canada. My thoughts are with the loved ones of the deceased. I'm truly sorry for your loss.

My sincerest condolences to the good folks at First Air and to the families of the victims.
May god give you the strength to keep going and to those who have lost their lives, may they rest in peace.

I used to call YRB home long ago. I've known Aziz for many years. I'm fearful I may know some of the crew. I'd appreciate a pm if someone could do that.
I was with Gulf Air when GF072 crashed in Bahrain. We were flying back to Bahrain from London the night of the accident and had a BBC news crew onboard to cover the story. The ensuing days were very difficult for the staff.
My deepest sympathies to family, friends, flying buddies. Very very sad event. My heart goes out to the First Air family. You really are a family and a top notch outfit.
My most sincere condolences to the entire crew at First Air. I got to know many of their people when I was in the arctic and this is a very sad and tragic event. RIP to those lost.
Having recently dealt with losing 3 people in a crash i deeply empathize with the friends families and colleagues. The pain and anguish is overwhelming. Support each other and try to "ride out" the emotional waves as well as you can.
My thoughts are with the First Air community, and the crew.
