Re: Jack Layton
Don't get me wrong..and while I think Jack Layton was a decent guy and all..I personally don't think his contributions were to such a magnitude that we should be naming airports or mountains after him.
Re: Jack Layton
OK. Where does this finally end? State funeral. (paid for by my tax dollars) Airport. Province perhaps? Hell, why not rename the country.
Honest, hard-working Canadians die of cancer every day (my wife's been fighting it now for 9 years). She's had a real job all of her adult life (except for the time she had to take off for surgery, chemotherapy (twice), and radiation). She didn't marry into money, she married a pilot. One who gets paid according to the amount of actual work he does.
I'm sorry that yet another person died from cancer. One of hundreds that day. Quit trying to create a martyr and instead, check out the brave children in cancer wards all over the country. Name an airport after one of them.

Re: Jack Layton
Yup .... starting to look like the over the top hoopla over Princess Di.
Sure, Mr Layton was politically astute, and convinced a lot of people to vote for him and the faithful party member followers of his espoused ideology, but enough is enough already .... just punch the pause button for 48 hours.
He's not Winston Churchil.
I wouldn't have known about this article by Christie Blatchford if it hadn't been for the local CBC morning show host expressing indignation that anyone could be less than thrilled about crowds being whipped into a cult-like religous fervor, but she expresses the thoughts of many in this column ... http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/201 ... spectacle/

Terry Fox was just another young kid who died of Cancer. Right?
I've never voted for Jack Layton and am also a little surprised at the universal (well, almost) outpouring of grief for the man, which gave me pause to think about that for a bit. While I was never a fan the fact cannot be denied that he had a huge heart and never ceased fighting for the little guy. He also never lowered himself or his party to the gutter level that has dominated federal politics for too many years now.
Perhaps it's the loss of that and any hope of a return to decency in parliament that people are mourning as much as Jack Layton himself.

Re: Jack Layton
Jack Layton single-handedly screwed the Bloc Quebecois. While I think the hoopla over his death is exaggerated, for that reason itself the plaudits are well deserved. As to lowering himself and his party to the gutter level, he didn't have to. Libby Davis and Pat Martin were quite capable of doing that.
