Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
No different than wet leasing the '57 from North American. Why would AC employees/pilots be upset?fly4ever wrote:http://www.yyznews.com/Sep.html

Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
^ Ok, colour me as not understanding what you are getting at, either?
JAzz enters into an agreement with Thos. Cook for a 757 - I can see how some AC might have a problem with that.
But Westjet? They're the competition - they are supposed to compete, no? Or am i missing some sarcasm, irony, or other such literary device in your post?

Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
I believe that there was a BIG misunderstanding here.
Westjet is set to lease a 757 from Thomas Cook, for operation of December-April.
Jazz is operating for Thomas Cook through the winter season, on our own separate runs. Jazz is NOT operating this run, Thomas Cook is on a lease with there crews just like North American did last year.
Don't believe me, look at the registrations, the ones we have are Canadian Regs. There's will be a UK Reg.

Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
I think the real question is what do the WestJet pilots think about this, if it is in fact true.

Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
They were fine with it last year and I'm sure they'll be fine with it this year.

No misunderstanding in which airline is leasing which aircraft. It's the point of you post regarding Thomas Cook and Westjet?flyinhigh wrote:I believe that there was a BIG misunderstanding here.

Or did you catch on to what's going on?
Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
Wonder how many aircraft and routes will be added before they're not fine with it anymore?CanadaEH wrote:They were fine with it last year and I'm sure they'll be fine with it this year.
Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
I'm sure that's a conversation the WJPA has had with the WJ Executive.
Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
Thats odd. I have a couple friends flying at WJ who were decidedly NOT fine with it last year.....CanadaEH wrote:They were fine with it last year and I'm sure they'll be fine with it this year.

Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
Several of the people I know there were also NOT fine with it last year. They were also very concerned that it could potentially be a similar operation for this year. That said "I'm Sure" everything will be just fine as long as those who are unhappy keep their thoughts to themselves and just go along with it.bcflyer wrote:Thats odd. I for one am pleased they are doing it again. If it's good for the company, it's good for me. Should WestJet buy bigger aircraft just because of a couple of babies that want to fly them? Hell no! I can assure you your "friends" are the minority. This management is out to screw you bullshit is one example of Westjet hiring too many guys from Jazz IMHO.

No one I've flown with has seemed upset about it.

Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
Any pilot for any airline who is "happy" that foreign crews are operating on Canadian routes should give their head a shake
Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
I don't think many of the pilots are "happy" that foreign pilots may be flying under contract for us, I also don't think many pilots are "upset" that foreign pilots may be flying under contract for us. Make sense?
Maybe it's just a recognition that it probably isn't in the best interests of the majority to train a few pilots on a new aircraft type for such a short time frame.

Let's not start dividing the WJ ranks shall we? We'll leave that to the AC folks.LisaS wrote:I for one am pleased they are doing it again. If it's good for the company, it's good for me. As for the wet lease some are ok with it, others are less comfortable with it. IMO it's not worth getting a new type for one route, nor should we just give it up. Personally I'd get concerned if we expanded the wet lease program - which there is no mention of that happening. I think it's a great way to test the waters and see if maybe this is something we could/should do on our own without the expense of

Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
I've heard the same. Not all are "ok" with the wet lease last year and I have heard comments that WJPA needs to certify.bcflyer wrote:Thats odd. Historically it has been true for the pilot/management relationship but that blind faith seems naive from my biased, jaded, screwed-over vantage point. If it's good for the company, it's good for me.
Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
Its a bad road to allow any foreign pilots to operate any Canadian routes IMO. Small country, small industry, lots of pilots .. there's no need for any foreign labour. WestJet can lease the aircraft and use WestJet pilots to operate them .. simple .. If Jazz can do it, anyone can do it. This could equate to more crews and better working conditions for other pilots in our industry, problem is, as pilots we can't see beyond the tip of our own nose.
The foreign pilot thing has to stop, union's, associations need to spearhead the end of this crap and we need to support them in the effort. This should be a two way street .. I don't believe in lowering foreign WAWCON for an all expenses paid trip to see the Euro hot spots, unless its a Canadian route, Canadian company, Canadian aircraft .. originating where? Canada.
Fly safe.

Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
I guess they should have stopped that practice right before you were hired than.LisaS wrote:This management is out to screw you bullshit is one example of Westjet hiring too many guys from Jazz IMHO.
Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
I never bought into that union bullshit buddy. I also knew from the get go I was going to WestJet. I was just biding my time at that stepping stone until they were ready to hire again.
I completely stand by my comment.

Re: Thomas Cook and Westjet Rumor?
Your time is obviously wasted doing whatever you are doing. With your grasp of the economics you should be running a major airline. Simple is right.Localizer wrote:Its a bad road to allow any foreign pilots to operate any Canadian routes IMO. Small country, small industry, lots of pilots .. there's no need for any foreign labour. Wow, LisaS sounds like a real piece of work. I guess even Westjet can't get it right all the time.
