Realistically a KA200 would be my choice. You would still be able to see some stuff from the air, the range and reliability is there, and Jet A is a hell of a lot easier to get as opposed to the Avgas. Overflight permits would be easier to accomodate as well.

Fantasy, a nice pimped out B757. Still has the range but has the room to party.

Really a fantasy - a A380 with a small Citation Jet with foldable wings stored down below.

I'm pretty excited that this has become the, "What's the best plane to convert into a hotel?" thread.

A Caravan of course. Fly it at night in IMC when there is less traffic with the incidental passengers you picked up from your craigslist ad to "share" the costs of your round the world, time building exercise.

Or just try to set a record and fly a Cri-Cri.

You and me both! Flying hotels FTW! However.. I think I'd convert one of these..

As I'm a HUGE fan of the turbojet era...

The super 61's with the turbofans look pretty sweet too! I can remember riding the jumpseat on the freighters with my dad when I was 8!

I'd take a 737-200. I couldn't imagine circling the globe in the cramped seat of something like a Tiger Moth.

That DC-8 looks too sweet to make into a hotel but what a perfect personal jet that would be. I wonder if there's any flying somewhere?

I think the ultimate airplane that someone with pockets not-all-that deep could fly around the world has already been built and started to go around the world before coming to grief in British Columbia.
I can't remember the name of it, but it was of geodetic constuction, fabric-covered, looked like a flying Airstream trailer with twin Lycomings mounted on a high wing, had wheels that retracted so the whole thing could float.
The interior had a glass nose with a huge cockpit, looking more like a movie-theatre with wrap-around screen, a proper galley, a lounge, a bedroom, even a hatch in the floor to allow scuba diving when afloat.
It crashed awhile ago and was stripped by locals when unattended.
The engines were 0-540's with lower-compression pistons so that it could burn the lowest-octane mogas the designer could locate on the planned route around the world.
How about that pilot in Edmonton that decided one winter was lasting too long, loaded up his friends and flew his PBY nonstop to Hawaii?

It's replacement is the Wilson Global Explorer, noted in Wikipedia although there's no mention of the original one lost in British Columbia

Here's a picture of the first one. Says they both crashed.

And and article about Dean Wilson the guy that designed and built the plane.

Yes, that's the one.
"Wingabago", that says it all.
I guess that I took the title of this thread at face value, other than a couple of other suggestions, most of the airplanes mentioned would certainly be on my "Bucket List" but not what I'd like to putt around the planet in, or on...

Right towards Waikiki and Diamond Head, that brings back memories!
I saw this airplane one year at the Abbotsford Airshow, it did an amazing figure-eight, steep turn while staying in the infield, very slow with a very-high roll rate...

I may have that on a VHS tape. The announcer was talking about the tires. I have seen it at Namao before they closed the base runways. And I also have seen it in YYC picking things up.
