Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, you just happen to to be in a vast minority with yours lol.

The buck 85 is a pretty twitchy airplane, and very unstable around the pitch and yaw axis's. Every time I tried to land in a gusty crosswind the hair on the back of my neck would stand on end. Also, at any approach speed under 80kts the ailerons were slow to respond to the point where I felt like I was using the force to pilot her. That said she would take off with the water up to the spreader bar, and when loaded and flown properly there wasn't a lake too short (lake, not pond). Doesn't sail particularly great. When flown within her limitations she's a pussy cat, an absolute joy to fly. Never ever ever get complacent sitting in that airplane though as there are plenty of guys with more than 10000hrs who its killed or have wrecked one, as posted above its very unforgiving to poor decisions, and poor handling.

Never flown a goose, but it's got a reputation too.

Err? Just a guess, but I would think to land and take-off from water.

Good luck with that, I was thinking maybe the floats are used to convert it into a fancy boat that's difficult to dock.

Well, considering the Aztec can outhaul and out speed a piston Beaver while using less gas, why would the lightweight Cherokee that can outhaul and out speed any equivalently powered Cessna on land be so bad?

Except the low wing (like the 18), lack of pilot door (like lots of float planes, I'll beat a Super Cub owner from one side to the other in a Cherokee) and using a bit more water--which for lots of operations isn't a big deal--I think it is more pilot preferences than actual capabilities that come into play.

The only aztec I saw working on floats was at Slate Falls back in the day - didn't have it long - if memory serves me correctly engine temps were an issue -- little too tightly cowled for floats - and certainly the low wing was a far bigger issue than the Beech

A buddy of mine operated a Nomad (Aztec) on the wet coast, shuttling passengers to YVR, quicker than a Beaver, enabling more flights per day for less cost.

I think it's a good looking machine on floats.

I've flown lots of single engine pipers and most single engine cessna's, and they're not really any faster, nor do they haul more or burn any less than their high wing counterpart. Not trying to be argumentative or anything, I just don't see a point in having a low wing float plane. Besides if it were so much better and more cost effective, everyone would be doing it. People don't piss their money away in the ultra competitive aviation industry just for pilot preference, and float operators for the most part are not government subsidized.
I would like to see what "a bit more water" looks like when comparing a champion like a super cub against the econo-box cherokee please and thanks. LOL
Also piper did make a high wing, and it's awesome on floats. I think you already mentioned it in your post.

Hardest float plane you will ever fly is the one you will end up having the most respect for. -- sometimes hardest does not mean the most difficult but the one you have the hardest time hauling your ass out of bed to spend another day with that "old slut" :smt040

I saw an Apache on amphibs tied down in Bangor, Maine last month. Don't know what engines it had. Wondered how it worked on the water!

This one is a handful; I found this extremely hard to fly. A shoulder yoke contols the ailerons, the wheel controls the rudder, foot operates a gas pedal. The linked article is from last year, we flew it again this year for the 100th anniversary of U.S. Naval Aviation.

OBO the Norseman, Liquid Charlie?

If so, that was Grandad's airplane for a couple seasons in the early '50s.

I don't know which was the most difficult to fly but the Norseman takes the prize for the most difficult to start hand cranking with the inertial starter.

I put on about 30 hours on the Norseman before I went back to the Otter. It was nice to say that I flew one because that's certainly what I wanted to do given their history but give me the Otter any day.

That's when it was likely at the MNR -- I'm not quite that old -- haha -- I flew it late 60's and early 70's out of RL --

The 206 with a turbo and Horton STOL is a real performer. It's pretty easy to fly too. As for hardest, the Norsemen has to be up there.
