Low pass at YYZ
I have seen videos of people in single engine aircraft getting to do a low and over at Pearson. I am planning to fly down to City Center at some point this fall (from the Sault) and I think it would be a pretty cool experience to do a low approach (even just to over-fly it would be cool). Does anyone have any advice as to how to get tower to let you do this? What time of day is least busy thus more likely being allowed to do so?

Overflights generally can be accommodated as you fly down one of the 15s at 2000ft. Of course, if the E/W runways are in use. If the 33s are in use, I don't know.
As for doing a low and over, mid-day is usually the best time as the movements are down then and it is generally off-peak. Really up to the controller at the time making sure they can fit you in and how well you can accomodate their instructions.

I know someone who recently did this, but it was quite late at night (after 11pm). My guess would be that either past 11 or mid day off peak ( as mentioned above) would work. That said, City centre closes at 11 so u would have to plan carefully if u were to do this in bound - ie cross over yyz at 10 or 1030 at the very latest. And be wheels down before 11.

Avcanada Commandment #1
Thou shalt not give clues about identity lest thou get harrassed like grade 3 student.
Back on topic now. Some people I know have called and asked what the best time to come by is.

I have done this many times in the past, usually late night after traffic is slow.
throttle to the wall at a few feet off the runway airspeed pegged at 120 kts
which isn't even the rotation speed of 90% of all the traffic at that airport ..LOL

Most flying is a forward motion mine is doing backstrokes!!!

Back when I was at Soo College, we did a low and over at Buttonville. It wasn't my idea. The pilot I couldn't convince otherwise did indeed want to show the Seneca students (not the Air Canada guys) how bad ass the Zlin was.winds_in_flight_wtf wrote:Trying to show all those Air Canada pilots how bad ass your Zlin is?

If that ever happens to me again as a FO on anything smaller than an A380, I'm gonna smack the captain and take control. One of the most embarassing moments of my life.

as mentioned, you can get permission to transit the zone via one of the 15's, usually the rightside which is generally the "flyby" option for the tower as it is used when the Lancaster is up on some occasional hops.
heli traffic routinely overfly's yyz to ytz thru the zone so just follow your normal comm-ops when getting near, there is no pnr when vfr.
i would probably plan to cross s&l at a designated alt, i don't think the twr folk's wanna watch you transit in grnd-effect down the rwy.
as for good time's, midday sunday can be lil sleepy so maybe plan for it if you want to be wheel's down before sunset. you will also improve your chances if you pass before early evening when all the big iron start's lvng for the Europe & the UK.
