UAV border patrol

These things are almost as big as a C208 and have a service ceiling of 25000ft. Does anyone know if they have a transponder and are the pilots talking to ATC or are they just flying around hoping not to run into anyone.

Yes on both questions.

The above poster is right, they do have transponders and communicate with ATC. I've been looking into UAV training, there are a few schools around the country that offer it. I think it's going to be more and more lucrative as a career option in the future. Course, I might be too old at 49 and there is competition from the military. Still would like to get into it.

It is very difficult to see other aircraft from a UAV. The sensors tend to be optimized for looking down to the ground. Generally the will have to work with some kind of controlling agency in reserved airspace. Don't count on the UAV pilot being able to see you.
