Jazz college grad new hires?f

Post by ng78 »

Has Jazz hired anymore low time college grads since they started the program a few years ago? I've heard different answers and was just curious. If the economy doesn't tank and Air Canada hires as many pilots as forecast, perhaps this isn't a bad solution for a company like Jazz.

Yes they are still hiring college kids, and will continue to. From a strictly company perspective the college kids work great. They pretty much can't leave, so are a good investment, and they dont complain about pay and working conditions.

Fair enough. Sounds like it's a win-win! Unless you have some hours and are trying to get into Jazz :P

3 classes of college have been hired and the program ended. There are no plans for the foreseeable future to continue the program...but you never know.

I heard from a reliable source that there will be college new hires in the OCT 25 ground school.

Why do you guys keep saying that they arent hiring college kids anymore. They clearly are, and there is no reason for them to stop. It really is a good program as far as the company is concerned.

Don't screw around with me, Maverick. You're one hell of an instinctive pilot. Maybe too good. I'd like to bust your butt but I can't. I got another problem here. I gotta send somebody from this squadron to YYC. I gotta do something here, I still can't believe it. I gotta give you your dream shot! I'm gonna send you up against the best. You two characters, are going to Jazz. For five weeks, you'll be flying against the best paid Dash 8-100 pilots in the world. You were number two, Cougar was number one. Cougar lost it-turned in his wings. You guys are number one. But you remember one thing: if you screw up just this [pinches fingers for emphasis] much, you'll be flying a Cessna Caravan full of Doritos and Orange Crush out of Pickle Lake!

Then they learned nothing in their "pilot program" about being a real hard working pilot!

I guess they can keep quoting "Top Gun" to pay their bills! :smt040

Are the "college grads" in the hold pool like the non top gun aviators? Or are they put in ground schools when the company wants to put them in? Like Oct 3rd and Oct 24th?

Haha, some nice Top Gun quotation there Maverick. On the subject of the college grad hiring, can anybody give me a brief explanation of it? How does the program work?

Or can any of these college kids move on to better gigs? Yes at 21 years old right seat of the dash or rj might be pretty sweet. But to move up or on from there could be difficult. Brilliant move by mgt, keep a steady stream of grads to plug that never ending treadmill that is the f/o seniority list.

At least one of the college kids is already at AC.

If you are reading this from up North, don't you feel special now.

What a joke.

Well, I am Graduate of a two-year Aviation Diploma and we had the "Jazz Award" which basically meant that at the end of the two year program, all class mates wrote down their candidate of whom should get the award. Then, after evaluating their marks and flight progress, the instructors would agree on the top two candidates of the class. They then get elected and got sent to Toronto or wherever Jazz does their sim eval and after the interview, they find out if they are Jazz material and get offered a spot in the ground school or not.
What is "Jazz material"?

My thoughts exactly. So much for "paying your dues".
