I do love the show. That's exactly why I watch it. But it seems most of us make so much effort in making aviation safer that when we see things like that it makes me wonder how well we are doing. I know it's a tv show and it has to be dramatized and I'm fine with that. But shouldn't the show try to show the viewers how every steps are taken to make sure everything is as safe as can be? I.E. When the fire alarm goes off, reject take off and figure it out on the ground and not make 2 more legs with the alarm on?

Cheers

+1, seems my time can be better spent elsewhere from now on, it used to be fun and informative....now most posters here are just commenting for the pissing match.

As soon as they pulled the power back and the fire alarm went out, I figured it was an exhaust leak. Its funny that when the pilot called into maintenance they didn't realize what was happening. I have never flown a C-46, but I do fly cl-215's, and with a zone one fire the first thing you do is retard the throttle. If the light goes out, exhaust leak. If the light stays on there is more too it.

Love the show, found the last episode a little boring since most of it was about the bouncing bomb, and I had watched the bouncing bomb documentary about 10 times already. :D

Keep the episodes coming, I need to have my shows so I can compete with the wife's dancing with the stars, big brother and bachelor junk.

I love the show and have watched every episode but the last one has me wondering.
I think the captain did the right thing on take-off out of Delinia. With a snow covered runway and a directionally unstable airplane, IMHO he did the right thing in continuing with the take-off.
What happened after is a bit questionable. There was no AME present in Normal Wells to certify that the airplane was airworthy. I do not think a fire warning can be MEL'd by the flight crew. Especially afterit was discovered that a defect existed when the airplane made it back home. The only thing I noticed is that the picture of the fire warning light and bell is the same shot on every take-off and there is no word of TC coming down on the airline so I think the producers of the show just put some stock footage together to make up drama.
Joe and all his employees know the regulations and know enough not to do anything stupid, especially on TV.

These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

I am another fan of the show. Noticed that the language in the cockpit now contains such calls as v1 and v2. Some of those airstrips are pretty tight--howabout just calling Vr? Do the DC4 and C46 have net gradient climb charts?

Is Vr still a number in a large taildragger?

Quite the opposite - some places you can't get into IFR (alternates, approach minimums etc).

Just watched the showed last night REALLY enjoyed it!! I'm curoius why they spent the time and fuel cost to de-ice with tarps and Hermans vs using de-ice fluid??? Great show and I look forward to this Wednesday night!

Of course, I wasn't thinking clearly. I meant having a flight plan filed, I've flown up north for the better part of a decade VFR so duhhh.

Haven't you ever seen a tailwheel aircraft takeoff? They don't lift off in a 3 point attitude. (well not usually)

Bit of trivia. I found a pic of that DC-4 they were bringing to Red Deer, C-GBNV, in Episode 3 that was taken in 1962 in Berlin when it was operated by the USAF.

I fly tail wheel aircraft. I just don't understand why you wouldn't think Vr is a valid number in a tail wheel aircraft.

Well maybe I am way off base, but when watching large tail-wheel aircraft takeoff, it does look like they accelerate in a level attitude and then "rotate" at flying speed. Is that not the case?

Yes, that is the case. I misunderstood your post. During acceleration the tail wheel comes up, slight forward pressure is applied to keep the mains on the ground until Vr is reached than you gently relax the slight forward pressure and rotate.

I learn something new every day, does it matter where the pitch trim is set before this method works?

 Depends on your load. I have not flown a DC 3, just single turbo otters. I set the trim in relation to the load I am hauling. With the Barron stol kit you have to hold slight forward pressure or she will fly before you want her too. If I am doing stol work than its a little different, no need to hold her on, once the tail starts flying she will go. With the Garrett that is usually around 35kts.

Awesome! I think i had forgotten that piece of trivia. I hope BNV flys again. Currently removing/removed tank to put on an Electra. I think our Blue Bird DC-4 is ex-Berlin Airlift. C-FBAM.

GLBA, an Electra used to be painted black with a moon on it, cn 1145

Anybody notice in the video how the f-16 looks like the nose wheel collapsed just after the roll at about 0:25 sec??
