Re: Low time jobs overseas??
I've done that already. My two cents: stay in Canada an spend that money for trips within this country. Going to Asia is expensive. The cost of living is lower than here, but flights to and from Asia and transportation are high.
Another thing about countries in Asia, they hire their own pilots 99.5% of the time. It all about protectionism. Its like with us in Canada, its hard for a foreign pilot to get hired in Canada unless he is a Citizen or landed immigrant, license conversion. If you re going to Malaysia, they will want Malaysian Pilots. If you are going to Taiwan, they will require Taiwanese pilots etc.
There is an exception to all of this. But you will not make part of this exception. Asia is open to Experienced Expat Pilots. Are you experienced? no. Some companies require at least 3000 hours total with 500 on the type they will be hiring. This means A320, A330, B777. With 250 hours, your not even going to be looked at. You can try Cathay Pacific with the Second Officer program. But do not bet all your energy on them because it is VERY VERY VERY competitive. Speaking from personal experience. They have people from all over the world.
So, bottom line. Stay here, where organizations know your case, qualifications and license type. Its better to spend 1000 dollars on a road trip of flight trip and be closer to home and find a job, than to spend 5000 dollars and come back with nothing, I have done the same mistake and I regret having spent so much. Traveling in Asia is great! Don t get me wrong. I love Asia. But you can go once yul have a good and secure employment.
Build you time here for a couple of years, than by all means go for the more lucrative jobs in Asia once you achieve those 3000 - 5000 hours.
Cheers

LaurentDussolier, thats terrible advice.
Etihad, pack your bags check it out and if it works out you'll have a great experience and if you don't your none the wiser. Make some contacts, do your homework and buy a ticket. Half the pilots I flew with overseas either started in SE Asia or went back after doing a stint in Africa. Flying a Caravan in East Africa was the best time I ever had. I still look back and laugh at least once a day at some of the stuff I was lucky enough to experience.
Bring your Camera.

Don't go to Asia... you won't get a job with 250 hours. You'll have a good holiday but that's about it. The only option in Asia would be Susi Air in Indonesia, but why not send them a resume and cover letter instead. If you want to take a trip looking for a flying job, go to Botswana or Tanzania... I believe you could get lucky in Namibia or possibly Malawi as well, but your best bet is Botswana.
Anyway, if you think you're going to knock on doors of major operators in Asia and get a job flying anything, you're dreaming.
Good luck.

Susi Air in Indonesia does not hire with 250 hours. I when there myself last year. Plus there are lost of problems with the Indonesian Government and the company to convert your licence. You'l have to fly, if hired, without a license conversion. Which means that you will be flying illegaly for some time before the company actually pays for the conversion. Indeed, very corrupt system.
Going to Africa is very difficult as well. They usually hire South African pilots or Namibian Pilots because since the countries are closer, the licences are better known. The way it works is like here. You go, knock on doors and hope they like you enough to bring you in. My two cents, if you have the money, and where talking about 6000 to 8000 dollars to spend strictly on travelling, then go out for an adventure and a nice vacation. But if you are relatively broke, like most pilots breaking in the industry, then I would sugest you to look for stuff closer to home. Because if something goes wrong, you have a better manoeuvring space than being 3000 KM away. By all means go overseas once you have accumulated a bunch of hours such as 3000 or 5000. SIgn up with a recruitment aviation organization that will send you to do various contract work with Asian airlines. Pay can go up as much as 4000 $ a month untaxed. But as a beginner, look for stuff within Canada because it is here where air carriers know your situation and know the qualifications.

Wrong. I worked there. I know dozens of fresh CPL's hired there to fly as FO's on the Van. The problems with licensing and work visas are there... if that bothers you, don't go.Sky_Conqueror wrote:Susi Air in Indonesia does not hire with 250 hours.
Wrong. I worked in Tanzania. And have come across dozens of people from all continents who went there with fresh CPL's... some hung out longer than others before becoming employed but it still works. Just pick the right country. Like I said, Bots and TZ are probably the best. The license does not matter as long as it's ICAO recognized... easy Air Law exam for conversion and if you ask around, you can get the answers before writing.Sky_Conqueror wrote:Going to Africa is very difficult as well.
The safe bet is work in Canada first and go for the sure thing later, but to each their own.

Sky_Conqueror you must be related to that other bozo LaurentDussolier. If you have a good head on your shoulders and a great work ethic nobody needs a recruitment service.
Africa or Asia......3000km away? Try 13 000. You have no idea what your talking about regards to overseas employment. Maybe you should encourage the fella to do what he wants and what he is asking for in the post.
Tanzania was good to me, Etihad. Lots of Caravans to fly there but expect to cut your teeth on a C206 first.

Re: Low time jobs overseas??
What the hell is wrong with people on avcanada? Can't they take an example towards a general idea instead of taking everything literally? I am sure I have travelled more than you Gumby and I can confirm that as a fact! Im really tired of seeing people showing disrespect with an arrogant manner.
First, who the hell is LaurentDussolier? Second....do you know anything about my life??? No! How can you determine and judge someone with just one thread? You should go over the basics of how to undertake a debate, because the way you are going...you are not going to go far in life.
I know a lot about working overseas for your information. I currently work overseas! Something totally different of what you expected no? I have had 2 positions overseas, the second in which I am currently working at. But that did not come easy. I tried back home.
But there is a difference here. I had family and friends overseas. AND I had a friend CEO in a company I applied AND I had dual citizenship! So that has allowed me to cut back on sustenance and housing. If it wasn't for them, I probably would still be unemployed.
All I'm saying is that if he has THE FUNDS to undertake a journey or connections...then by all means go. But if he is hoping to get a job with just 250 hours OVERSEAS then he has less chances over there then in Canada, his home country. UNLESS, again, he has dual citizenship. Besides CERTAIN countries in Africa, a great number of countries are VERY protective over their pilots. Forget the majority of South America, South Asia, South East Asia as they will only hire from the local populations for low time pilots (Exception of Cathay with Int. Cadet Program and Etihad, but the Cadet program has been closed for now).
All Im trying do do is to save this individual a considerable amount of cash that could be used for better results nationally. It would be wiser to use other strategies in discussing with other people Gumby, and you should learn how to read between the lines.
