Ok, thanks for the explanation.

Full credit to the rescue crews and the public who assisted. Whatever adjective you use to describe the pictures, it shows the difficult circumstances these great folks faced in dealing with this event. I'm sure there are people alive because of them.

Eyewitness on the news tonight - who apparently works at the airport - said he was watching it land when it suddenly knife edged to the left.

By the calm nature of the crew in ATC calls and lack of an emergency decleration - I would assume that whatever happened - happened suddenly. With the very low altitude, they had little chance to recover. The above statement fronm an eyewitness would seem to suppport that theory.

Let's hope everyone pulls through.

I'll agree, however these stills are quite intense and gripping.

Quote from the Vancouver Sun "“Directly ahead of me in the sky I saw the plane bank really hard to its left, and then immediately to its right, as if it were out of control,” he said"

Does anyone know if they were following an aircraft into YVR, if so how far behind? They seemed calm, it sounded like they had what ever they were dealing with under control.

Vincent Varona was driving southbound on Russ Baker Way when he noticed the plane flying erratically.

“Directly ahead of me in the sky I saw the plane bank really hard to its left, and then immediately to its right, as if it were out of control,” he said.

“It was still going very fast, and at that speed it was lower to the ground than a plane making a normal descent would be, so putting all of these things together, I thought to myself, ‘It’s going to crash.’ “

Now that it has been made public. I can confirm that the captain has succumbed to his injures. This happened approximately 4 hours after the accident. There will be a trust account set up for his wife and young daughter.

The individual, was an amazing man! Genuine, thoughtful, experienced and only ever thought of his wife his daughter and the best interests of others. Truly one of the best human beings I have ever known. In addition he was am exemplary captain and taught others by listening. He will be sorely missed!

Details of the account will be posted here later this afternoon.

My condolences to everyone else who is affected by this unimaginable loss!

To his credit, he did his job and all of his passengers got off the aircraft alive.

We love you and your family. Rest In Peace Friend! :?

How the "ef" do you know that!! What a vile and useless post. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who need them now, not speculating on what we think happened!!
Best wishes, condolences and prayers for speedy recovery to all involved.

It didn't start in the nose - The engines were on fire (AFTER THE CRASH) and the fire rolled up over the cockpit section.

My condolences to the family of the captain. Doesn't sound like the co-pilot will make it either.

A sad, sad day.
