Although the pilot was 44 years old and had experience I find that we just feed our young to the wolves. They generally fly the worst aircraft in the worst conditions and we all sit back and call it "paying their dues". While I'm working in a flight deck with advanced systems shooting yet another ILS or RNP my rookie counterpart has to manoeuvre a PA310 into some crappy gravel strip fighting the Black Hole effect and yet another blizzard with no autopilot for little pay because his company knows there's a 100 rookies ready to go if he won't do it. Such BS. I pray that my kids don't ever want to get their licenses.
It's about time this industry stood up and said enough especially the older pilots that have the wisdom and experience. Pilots who'd never put themselves in similar situations again.
And I don't mean this company or any disrespect to this company. I'm thinking and reflecting about my friends that I've lost at one particular company that mercifully no longer exists and the others that are still slipping through the seams. I certainly won't be sad to close the books on 2011. This has been a brutal year.

RIP Luc and a speedy recovery to Matt. That right there is my worst fear in aviation. Not necessarly dying or being injured in a crash but dying or being injured in a lost crash fire. My thoughts are with the crew, passengers and family.

All of'em can/will/have/did bite many in the arse. Some got away with it, others didn't
My heart is heavy with sadness for the loss of yet another pilot and the severe injuries the F/O sustained. There are no words to express the sympathy I have for all involved and effected.
RIP Luc, you were a fantastic pilot, and I am sure an amazing husband and father. I have flown with and known Luc for many years, and almost hired him to fly jets moving on in his career. My condolences to the wife and family.
You will be sorely missed. You are in our hearts and minds. It is time for all of these incidents to stop.

This was just on CBC with regards to Matt Robic's condition. With burns as severe as his he will be at risk of serious complications due to infection for quite some period of time to come.
The 26-year-old co-pilot of a plane that crashed near Vancouver airport last month remains in intensive care with severe burns.
Vancouver Coastal Health has released the latest update on Matt Robic's condition, listing him in critical but stable condition, nearly two weeks after the Northern Thunderbird Air turbo prop crashed and burned just short of a runway.
In all, nine people were injured in the October 27th accident and three — in addition to Robic — remain in hospital, although health officials say two could be released soon.
Four patients have already been discharged — the most recent on Friday — while pilot Luc Fortin died despite heroic efforts to pull him from the burning wreckage.
Im posting this incredibly sad news on both threads. CTV news reported this morning that Matt has passed away from his injuries. This is truly another sad day. My most sincere condolences to Matt`s friends and family that were hoping for the best as we all were! RIP Matt! GBNF
