Sure it would be fun to go blasting round the countryside in the right seat of a twin turbine for a first job but not smart. If you ever want to see the left seat of said twin turbine get some PIC time. Contrail requirements for turbine captains are very high. Some oil companies have recently set their own minimums and they are higher still. FO jobs also have PIC requirements precluding some experienced guys / gals from flying certain companies. I know the poll is for YYC jobs but all the companies there would be a rotten place to get a 1st job. A great 2nd or 3rd job but not 1st (Cariboo or Sunwest would get my vote then).
Are we there yet?

i think or at least the way that i read it was, where is your ideal 1st job in calgary, once you can break into that market. I dont think that anybody on here has any dilusions about getting a job in yyc with 200 hours. it'd be nice but even i had to move away to meet the requirements so someday i can hopefully get back to the promiseland.

When I was in my early 20's, I couldn't wait to hit the airlines. Now I’m 28 and in no great rush. The difference? I’ve tasted a bit of the world: different cultures, changing scenery, some harsh environments...and I greatly enjoy it.
I like to fly, not be flown.
When I do get on with a major, I will have "sewn my wild oats" if you will. And as the auto pilot drones on for hours, I'll have some fun story's to tell, and not feel like I missd out.
If your a new pilot, I wouldn't be in a rush to get to that dream job, you probably don't know what it is yet - you don't even know what’s out there.
I'm just learning what this industry has to offer and I've been in it almost 8 years now.
I guess it depends on what you want, the plane or the adventure. For me knowing what I know now, I would have to say the adventure, the plane will come.
With that in mind, if you want fun, go to Borek. If you want the plane go to hues. An airline enviroment, go to CMA.
No matter which route you take, you most likely end up where you want to go anyway.
Cheers.

Totally agree KAG.
Also, i don't know why but this thread kind of irkes me. It should read ultimate first job in YZF or YVC or YTH or YPK. Not only for the reasons that KAG said but I feel there is something to be said for "paying one's dues". I also think you are putting yourself behind the eight ball if you refuse to work up north. You are missing an invaluable experience.
When you then get to a place like YYC or YVR YYZ, you will apperciate a whole lot more, and probably move up faster due to your experience.
This is what I have found anyway from guys who stay south vs. those who go north.

Hey, King Air Guy!!!!
(sorry, but sometimes a posting is just irresistible!!!
"Sewn my wild oats", you said
"sown" one's "wild oats" implies past sexual activity. This act is performed with the male penis. (assumed, since you call yourself 'guy')
sewing is an act performed with a needle.
So my question is "do you have a needle-d**k?
Again, sorry, but if you set yourself up.................
