Re: CARGO JET LAYOFFS
Of course they didn't lay off pilots, how can a company lay off pilots when they are pouring out the door to other companies?
Come on guys, tighten your belts, pull your socks up a little more, you're not out of the woods yet, these are tough economic times, walue added service comes with sacrifice, you want 10 sdos, how about 30, dragons or flys, where's winston churchill this time, how about pro rated sdo's, who cares if everyone is asleep on the flight deck at once it's beer with noodle wrist time, trap door, don't book off, I don't care if your wife is giving labour, pilots are a bunch of whiners, dance for your bonus cheque, here's some jelly beans for xmas, the vancouver base will never closer, we don't know why people are leaving, thank AJ and CJ for the house and car that you own, 3% oops make it 1.5% ok now it's gone oh wait here's 1% ok have 3% now, 160 000$ bonus, here's the new seniority list, cough ahem ahem cough ahem ahem cough ahem, you don't try to confuse, don't worry Montreal downtown weekends will be back, Leduc weekends, 1201 check ins, back to back east coast, fatigue isn't an issue, you're the only one available, we don't need more pilots.
The jokes keep rolling don't they.
I'm editing this to say I really hope no one gets the axe on this or any future rounds. It's unfortunate that the company has sucked many people dry and I hope it continues to provide at least a paycheque for those who have tried to ride out the storm hoping for better. For those hoping to get out, I hope you find something a hell of a lot better, anything is better.

Re: CARGO JET LAYOFFS
That's fine, but this is not a KF thread. For some reason, THAT company always gets brought up when Cargojet is mentioned.AirMail wrote:KF hasn't laid off pilots in ages
From what I know, KFC is no rose either.
Anyways, best of luck to the Cargojet crews and maintenance folks. They are some great people. Keep your heads up folks.
Re: CARGO JET LAYOFFS
it said all departments no? Or is it to you that everyone else but the pilots matter? None the less read my post after.iflyforpie wrote:Who said I was talking about pilots? Are they the only ones that matter? Did you not read the OP where it said 'all departments?'AirMail wrote:KF hasn't laid off pilots in ages
sigh I wasn`t the first one to bring KF up, I was answering what I thought was a case point of pilot layoffs there, and I`m not saying one company is better than the other, but perhaps there is a reason you keep hearing about both at the same time? However continue to be thick and this thread will stray off course.warbirdpilot7 wrote:That's fine, but this is not a KF thread. My MEC actually told me "you'll win in due time" "but the damage to your reputation in the mean time will outweigh any gains"... What kind of supporting force is that???
So much for a "united" backing force eh?
ALPA is a money maker and does so at the expense of the professionals in this industry.
I sincerely hope you never have to make a stand with your employer. Should you need to, DONT count on ALPA to support you...
In the mean time, feel free to keep drinking the ALPA newsletter Kool-aid they send you every month!
Teepeecreeper, the truth is, a union is only as good as the people running it. It doesn't sound like you had/have people of integrity looking out for you or your pilot group. If that's the case, the only way to change it is to run for a position and change it from the inside. ALPA does support every pilot group in many different ways, but at the local MEC level you need to get the right people to do the job. If you're not happy with the current MEC or LEC's, and if one isn't happy then there are more, I encourage you to do something about it.
Cheers!

Re: CARGO JET LAYOFFS
I don't think they can afford to layoff anyone else. The machines cant fly or fix themselves! LOL. Very quiet at CJ these days people are very afraid! Maybe that was the plan all along---IMHO

Re: CARGO JET LAYOFFS
An S/O will be leaving in the next week or so. More F/Os will be leaving in Feb. This place is a mess and with hiring throughout the industry just starting to gain momentum, the situation at Cargojet will get a lot worse before it stops getting a lot worse.
There's no other company in Canada flying jets, one that's been around for just about a decade, without any F/Os who can be upgraded to the left seat. All F/Os with enough experience to be upgraded to captain have left for better conditions, the last one this week. This isn't about people leaving because it's night freight, look at KFC, Morningstar and even First Air...they all have lists of qualified F/Os waiting for their number to come up for an upgrade, why are THEY not all leaving? Simple. Their conditions are decent and stable, not continuously eroding to new depths. Cargojet pilots are the hardest worked pilots in this sector in Canada, they're also the lowest paid (an S/O starting today makes the same as an S/O who started ten years ago), leaving Cargojet not only below industry standard but also setting the bottom end.
Working 18 nights is very different than 18 days, just read any of the research that has been published on the cumulative effects of operating on the 'back side of the clock' on fatigue, human performance and on over all health. It's no coincidence that recent amendments to regulations on Maximum Flight Duty Time as well as Minimum Rest Periods adopted by the FAA, are more restrictive when setting duty time limits and minimum rest periods between duty periods when that duty takes place in the middle of the night as opposed to in the middle of the day.
As schedules keep progressively getting tighter at Cargojet to compensate for shrinking crew numbers, with once again more deadheading on both ends of pairings and less rest between duty nights, when will lifestyle, let alone safety really begin to matter?

Re: CARGO JET LAYOFFS
More Seneca grads? Wow, that's speaks volumes of longevity. While a person with 300 will not be able to leave due to lack of experience, thus saving the company training costs, they too won't be able to upgrade to the left seat within the next decade. No offense to the last batch of Seneca people, you're good people, just don't understand the dilution of the experience pool. Low time people in the right seat, low time people in the back seat means a lot of work for the skippers.
I wonder what'll happen to the seniority list when they start hiring deriect entry captains again?

Coffee Talk well put.
I wonder what head office is brianstorming for the shit storm thats about to occur when 27 are parked in there nice hanger with no piltos to fly them.
I think I have an idea though
O say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight
O're the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there
O say, does that star spangled banner yet wave
O're the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Re: CARGO JET LAYOFFS
So who did they lay off now? Was it pilots, or office staff? Heard it is getting pretty thin in the office. Must be coming up on quarterly reporting time. Only way to post a profit for them these days seems to be lay some people off.
At least pilots will be able to find jobs.
