De-Ice bottles
I am trying to find out where to buy handheld pressurized de-ice bottles (fire extinguisher size) with nozzles and the electric thermal jackets/heaters.
I know they exist, but despite much research I can't find anywhere that sells such a thing, can anyone help.
Thanks

Re: De-Ice bottles
Safety supply stores should sell a "piss pack' type of refillable backpack fire extinguisher, Canadian tire for a battery blanket to wrap around it to keep it warm.

I've used both types.
The system at Aircraft Spruce is the way to go. It may be a bit more expensive and you may have to carry spare fluid; but it works like the proverbial "hot damn".

Re: De-Ice bottles
One of the companies I worked for used a backpack garden sprayer with a battery blanket to warm the fluid. Best thing ever. Because it's a backpack, you can sling it over your shoulder and under your arm is the handle to continually pressurize the bottle. Much better than lugging around a fire extinguisher. Probably cheaper too.

Princess auto for sprayer, blanket may need to be made, heater is battery blanket.

Thanks guys, the aircraft spruce look good what with the nozzles etc, but a packpack type might be nice for climbing ladders for high wings and tail.
Also wondering if any of these need to be approved under a Grd Icing Program in order to be legally used.

Re: De-Ice bottles
There is no such requirement. The requirement is to commence the takeoff roll without any contaminants adhering to any critical surfaces. How you meet that requirement is up to you.tallyho wrote:Thanks guys, the aircraft spruce look good what with the nozzles etc, but a packpack type might be nice for climbing ladders for high wings and tail.

Re: De-Ice bottles
I will have to second what has been said, get the backpack type and a battery blanket. The shoulder straps will make it worthwhile. I have used both and having hands free to climb a ladder or use a squeegee is worth while.
Cheers,

A garden variety flower-watering pot full of Smirnoff, suspended from a crane will suffice.
This series of pics is top shelf on its own but the 'de-frosting' equipment here is a must-see..

Re: De-Ice bottles
The company I fly for has Fire Extinguisher style Bottles with a electric heater probe inserted into the bottom and a thermal blanket around it. It has a fitting on the top to attach an air compressor hose or a bicycle pump to pressurize it. The nozzle is your basic air hose quick release fitting that you can spray though or it attaches to a line off a collapsible metal pole with a nozzle at the tip.
It works great I use to be able to hose down and I mean hose down a 1900, wings and tail no problem. The Heater would keep it dam hot and the fire extinguisher style trigger is great with gloves on. Spraying the tail its a two person operation one waving the sprayer and the other holding the bottle and trigger sure beat climbing a slippery ladder with the garden sprayer or backpack type that would leak all over you.
One draw back is you better have access to a Air compressor or a decent bicycle pump trust me at -15 the plastic Cambodian tire super cycle do not cut it. Our company finally got the message after the 10 new ones they bought all busted in about a week.
Ill try to find out who makes them or if our Maintenance guys came up with it.
Better yet get one of these Soviet Style de Ice machines

Someone should tell those Russians that if they turn the engine around it'll be easier to race the Red Bull guy:
