it's about time...“Mr. Rovinescu is providing a reality check. He’s saying Air Canada is uncompetitive.”
the campaign for the LCC is on its way.

Re: EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE
The CEO may be saying that "Everything Must Change" but I highly doubt that he means that the change should, or must start at the top. No doubt as well, that a year, or 5 years from now, his company will still be encumbered and struggling under the bureaucratic albatross of 3 Executive Vice-Presidents, 4 Senior Vice-Presidents and 11 Vice-Presidents. If the CEO wants change - he should lead by example - and start with "change" at the top. Otherwise, he'll simply be leading the company into the abyss.
Re: EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE
Air Canada simply can not compete with its current cost structure.Wages will come down.Staff numbers will come down.Attitudes will have to change. Regardless what happens at the top or the bottom, Westjet is heading towards a 50% market share and Air Canada exec knows it.They say they want a LCC but the truth is that the whole company will have to be LC to be profitable.

Low cost doesn't necessarily have to mean low service. I think WestJet provides pretty good service and they are definitely a LOCO, and have higher paid pilots than Air Canada for comparable equipment. True low cost can only come from optimizing the efficiency of the operation and that needs to start at the top. Air Canada has 18 senior executive positions, WestJet has four........
Re: EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE
Exactly. All he ever mentions is front end employees. I agree though that things must change.Doug Moore wrote:The CEO may be saying that "Everything Must Change" but I highly doubt that he means that the change should, or must start at the top. Re: EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE
“Air Canada is in a highly competitive business,” Mr. Murray said. “It wants to move to a lower-cost model. One of Mr. Rovinescu’s goals is to change the corporate culture, but there’s no hiding from the fact that there are issues.”
I think that might be hard to do when you take employee groups to court after and agreement you made but than didnt like.
To compare to AMR who is going into chapeter 11 is kinda bogus they have 4 billion in the bank in cash enough to cover alot of there debt but its easier to restructure and get rid of it and not pay for it...wish i could go bankrupt with 150 grand in the bank lol

Re: EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE
Is this an indirect way of saying that they want to absorb WestJet's culture pending so much success they've had?“Air Canada is in a highly competitive business,” Mr. Murray said. “It wants to move to a lower-cost model. One of Mr. Rovinescu’s goals is to change the corporate culture, but there’s no hiding from the fact that there are issues.”
About time they publicly recognize their need to change the corporate culture - like you guys said with the execs, I believe the company culture at AC has been a big draft for negativity since way back when the whole Canadian/AC ordeal happened.
All we can hope for is leading by example and seeing how the employees adopt that. How will this affect the protection "top jobs" in the seniority system like Martin Tamme was talking about before he left these boards? How would a change in corporate culture even encompass the seniority system they have? It is a big project, and it looks like several sectors within the company might get slashed with new "ways" that may result in a worse company culture because of bitter attitudes.
Re: EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE
A corporate culture change cannot start at the bottom, it can only start at the top. A corporate culture change can only start when the top demonstrates with their own actions that they mean it. That hasn't happened.loopa wrote:About time they publicly recognize their need to change the corporate culture - like you guys said with the execs, I believe the company culture at AC has been a big draft for negativity since way back when the whole Canadian/AC ordeal happened.
When CR first assumed the top job he said he wanted to empower the employees to make decisions and act on them in the best interests of our customers and business. That hasn't happened because we are more micro-managed than ever before.
A corporate culture change requires the corporation to actually mean it when they say they value their employees. Laughable.
A low cost carrier has low costs (naturally) in every aspect of the operation from the top down. What our leadership is insisting on is low costs beginning somewhat below the top. Is it surprising the vast majority of employees would love to tell the leadership where to put their new "corporate culture"?
Re: EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE
The corporate culture will NEVER EVER change as long as 1 single exec of the present team remains!Rockie wrote:A corporate culture change cannot start at the bottom, it can only start at the top. they have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are all only in this for their short term financial game, after which they plan to move on to their next victim.
Rovinescu does not care, all he wants is his obscene salary, he could not care less about you, me, the passengers or anyone else, he just wants his salary along with his pre-negotiated bonus.
Re: EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE
I think AC needs the "small company" attitude. Every one needs to step up their game because the little pieces are what makes a huge difference. So long as it remains a "big company" attitude, there are way too many loop holes where people like these execs can take advantage and pull off scum bag moves with money.DrBoeing wrote:The corporate culture will NEVER EVER change as long as 1 single exec of the present team remains!Rockie wrote:A corporate culture change cannot start at the bottom, it can only start at the top. Some may be paid more than a first year f/o. To say most are paid more than an f/o is an overstatement. They start at 10.80 an hour in some bases. Calgary they start at $15 an hour, but even that only works out to $31,000 a year... give or take. They cap out in the $23/h range, or 47,800 a year... give or take. They aren't that overpaid. If they're showing up an hour late to your plane chances are they're short handed.
